Take advantage of the leg room of the aisle. Thats at least what I do when I get stuck on a last moment flight. Its not too bad.

Sleep? That's what I do these days on flights. Sleep when you can since you never know when you'll get another chance.

Well sonny, you've got a couple of options:

1) Sit where you are assigned and try not to let the other passengers see you crying.

2) Offer the person in the window seat $100 bucks to switch with you.

haha...that sounds like something id do! lol. But not really, $100 is a bit much. But i would do my best to try to switch with someone. I NEVER fly without having a window seat, its a must have for me.

well there is nothing much you can do on a full flight. On a longhaul flight best thing i reckon would be to catch up on some sleep.

Might be a fun experiment to see what the $ threshold is to get somebody to change seats. Probably get a guy to PAY to give up his middle seat.
Could earn some walking around money.

Listen to music, read a book, doesn't make any difference whether you have a window seat or not, when you are up there there's not much to see anyway!!

Only time I like a window seat is on landing, I like to look at the view's !!

Well it depends on what you like to see. On a nice day a good window seat is tough to beat!

Beg to differ on that one.Usually see some great views(weather permitting of course)!Seriously tho',if you cannot get the window seat, and you're stuck in the aisle, then the only decent thing left to do to ease the boredom is......hit the beer trolley!!!
it would be rude not to!

If at all possible, you might try to get to the airport extra early to check in and grab an exit row window seat as you can't reserve them online or via the phone. You might also consider going standby on an earlier flight that has a window seat available.

When I read the title of the thread it made me think of my travel on an Alaska 737 this summer from LAX to Loreto, Baja California Sur. I selected row 9 F for both flights. The row of seats is positioned so the window is behind the row. LOL!

Um are we talking one hour hop or 14 hour transpacific, as over vast areas of water (often at nighttime) who cares about a window seat anyway?

Good point. Frankly, if it was a transcon, I'd want the window that much more (depending on the layout) since you could lean up against it to sleep.

I can't stand not having a window seat. I get stressed because I can't see very well outside and have nothing to lean against. I've only not had a window seat once. It was on WS from YYZ-YEG. We could have pre-booked our seats online but I wanted real boarding passes. Though the thought never occured to me to just get the seats online and say that our printer wasn't working. irked

Doesn't really bother me to be honest. It's nice to have a window to see what's going on down below and when we take off/land etc, but I've flown LAX-LHR routes without a window. I had my iPod, my Bose headphones, and plenty of sleep!  Smile In fact I slept better than I ever did on a flight so I was happy really.

I wouldn't mind the breeze, its all that unsecured crap flying past that would be really annoying.

Maybe there is a good reason to chain your laptop to the seat afterall.

I sit where-ever they put me. If I have a window seat I look at the scenery, if I don't, well I'll walk to the galley area and look out the window there instead, the rest of the time I'll be sleeping or reading a book.

If I don't get a window seat (rarely happens), I try:
1. Get an upgrade
2. If above fails, try to talk myself to window seat at check-in or the gate

If both options fail, I pull out my laptop and instead of working I watch some good bloody movie (Pulp Fiction, From Dusk Till Dawn, Sin City, Reservoir Dogs. And if I'm not driving upon arrival, I hit the cart too. Only I don't drink beer, rather scotch on rocks...

I love my window seat too, but only on shorthaul flights when I've got a chance to see something ... aisles are great for longhaul flights. You can always get to a window at a door if you wanna look outside in flight.

I would suck to get a window seat on flight like SYD-JNB or SYD-LAX. Nothing to see but water and lots of it
