Delta 767-400ER Vs AA A300

Fri Jul 28, 2006 8:42 am

Which aircraft do you think is better from a passenger perspective, Delta's 767-400ERs or AA's A300s? This is NOT a Boeing vs. Airbus poll, it is to view your preference as a passenger.

I definately like Delta's 767-400ER much better. The interior is is much better condition, while AA's A300s have been poorly mantained in the interior IMO. I also prefer the Boeing Signature Interior with the pivot bins.

well never been on a DL 764ER but the AA A300-600 in the new config is fairly comfortable I think as I have flown MIA-SJO.

I think the 764 is more comfortable - pretty much a no-brainer. AA's AB6's have old seats, old bins, old, old, old! The 764's are all relatively new and have new seats, new bins, etc. When they get PTV's, they'll be even better.

PS - Is this a poll?

Yes, it is a poll.

While the A300s are much older, they are still directly comparable aircraft, as they are both used for high-density leisure routes. Other comparable aircraft inlcude Continental's and Northwest's 757-300s, and United's 777-200As. Comparing Delta's 767-400ERs with Continental's 767-400ERs is not a fair comparison, as Continental's 767-400ERs are optimized for international routes. When Delta converts eight of the 767-400ERs to international, then it would be more of a fair comparison, and could even be comparable with Delta's and Continental's 777-200ERs.

Just out of interest, how old are they, in comparison to, say, DL's ancient transatlantic 767s? Much older?

Well I have never flown DL's764 or AA's 300. I have flown CO's 764 and it's definitely flown well. It's my favorite widebody except the 777. The 764 cabin was very comfortable when I flew IAH-AMS. Walkin around was easily accomplished and the seat comfort was a plus. The 764's are also very new compared to the A300..

I believe that Delta's first 767-300ER entered the fleet in 1990, while AA's first A300 entered the fleet in 1991. However, Delta has 767-300ERs made up to 2001, and still has options for an additional 10.

Delta is refurbishing the interiors of their fleet. Last time I have heard, four ex-domestic 767-300ERs were converted to international with a fully refurbished interior and the new BusinessElite seats.

BTW you shouldn't be comparing Delta's international 767-300ERs with AA's A300s. If you think comparing Delta's 767-400ERs with AA's A300s is an unfair comparison, maybe you should compare AA's A300s with Delta's domestic 767-300s. AA's A300s are newer, but Delta has been refurbishing the interior of their fleet.

It's an interesting poll, for sure. Very much a DL v. AA and 764 v. A300. Which do you like better, sort.

Our 764s are comfortable as were our A300s, I can imagine DLs are comfortable as are AAs, but even that is an individual taste thing. Isn't it a bit like what do you like better, oranges or apples?

The point is, that Delta's 767-400ERs and AA's A300s are used on similar routes: high density leisure routes. They are therefore indeed comparable aircraft.

I wasn't doubting that. It would be a more DL v. AA decision then, based on service, comfort, etc.. Unless you're an aircraft fanatic, like those of us here, who need to fly both.  Smile

I would pick the A300-600 over an older 767, but a newer 767 over the A300.

I ment in the Cabin. AC is re-doing all of thier 763's and 762's with the new cabin Boeing implimented in 2000 with the 767-400. So the 767's produced after 2000 have this new 777 like cabin.

Not all 767s produced in 2000 and 2001 have the Boeing Signature Interior. Delta operates 2000 and 2001 767-300ERs, and they still have the original 767 interior. Delta did have the option to change that, but did not.

Ive never been on AA, But ive flown a few flights on DLs 764s. They are comfortable, much better than their older 763s. From what i heard about AAs A300s, i would assume that DLs oldest 767 is better than AAs oldest A300

I love AA to death but I would take the 767-400 hands down. Those A300's scare the crap out of me as well.

I'm surprised AA is still flying them. Although the NTSB ruled the Queens, NY crash in 2001 was due to the pilot "over-yawing" (to compensate for the wake of the 747 that took off just prior to it), I could have sworn I heard reports about cracks in the AA A300 vertical stabilizer's tongues, which slide into the fuselage and add strength.

A300, am I the only one who loves this a/c its so beautiful and so much more interesting than the 767. I love Boeings but this a/c is one excepetion.

It may be old, but make the most of it, it wont be around much longer.

nope, I love it too. I'd choose the A300, like BA787 mentioned, they may not be around much longer anyway.

The amount of rudder and the reversals that were applied in that accident would have torn the tail off any airliner.

Anyway, I prefer the A300. The 767 just looks bland!
