Your First Transpacific Flight

Tue Aug 15, 2006 8:28 pm

Since we had the Transatlantic thread I thought we might have on one Transpacific flights and some of your experiences.
When was your first Transpacific flight, which route did you fly and what airline was it on. Feel free to add more info  Smile

First one was a KE 12 (a 744) from LAX-ICN. 14 hours and the middle seat!  Sad

Second one was SQ EWR-SIN on A345. Best flight ever!

Nov 29, 2004 LAX-TPE-KUL MH 095 B744, seat 60K
Dec 1, 2004 KUL-BNE MH 135. B744, seat 60K
Dec 16, 2004 BNE-KUL MH 134 B772, seat 14k
Dec 16, 2004 KUL-TPE-LAX HM 094, B744, seat 60K (had the whole row to myself for the TPE-LAX leg)

They were flights to remember, from a vacation to remember. Had been my dream from grade 1 to visit Australia, but alas, my wife made that dream impossible.

either
AKL-EZE on AR
or AKL-LAX on NZ
It depends on your take on what constitutes as transpacific.
I go with AKL-EZE
Flown to 120 Airports in 44 Countries on 73 Operators. Visited 55 Countries and counting. Wanderlust is like Syphilis, once you have the itch it's too late for treatment.

My first transpac flight was MEL-SYD-HNL-YVR return on QF & CP back in September 91

Subsequent crossings include MEL-LAX return on QF June 2005 and just last week SFO-AKL on a new NZ 772er

As I remember the flights going to Vietnam, they wouldn't let the soliders off at HNL, was that the policy also for going to Clark?

First flight across the Pacific, not on Uncle Sam's dollar was"
1982 -With QF the routing was SFO-HNL-BNE-SYD. Arrive in BNE before the curfew lifted so we just flew around for half an hour.

No, we got to get off but I don't remember for how long. I just remember having enough time to eat at a restaurant. We also got to stretch our legs at Wake. I guess not too many people can say they've been there  Smile . Too bad I don't remember anything. I also did a flight from Clark back to Travis but we stopped in Guam instead of Wake.

Dec 1996. BOS > JFK > NRT on, I think, NW

I was used to doing BOS > ZRH which was half the time, so the flight seemed to last forever. Now I only fly transpacific, so it's nothing big anymore.

Not the ideal glamorous first Transpac, but it wasn't bad considering it was a free ticket.  Wink

4 MAR 92 SFO-KOA DC10-10 (connected from HAM and LHR)
13 MAR 92 KOA-HNL-LAX DC10-10 (connected to JFK, LHR and HAM)

the "complete" flight across the Pacific was with NZ:

25 JUN 94 LAX-AKL B744 (connected from FRA and to CHC)
15 JUL 94 AKL-LAX B744 (connected to FRA)
