Service You Think Your Airport Should Have

Tue Aug 22, 2006 3:26 pm

So like it says. What service do you think your airport should have? Airport destination, Airline, Equiptment? Try to make these realistic. Not something just because you want to be the only one on your flight from VIS on a UA 744 to GRU haha.

I believe that FAT should have service to ORD served by eather UA or AA by an A319 for UA or MD80 for AA. AA would probably be the best fit because it seems to be the airline of choice out of FAT. 98% load factors from FAT - DFW on an MD82 I believe. AE is always full as well.

Also I believe that FAT could use service by AM with an 757 to Mexico City. The hispanic population here is so huge. In the whole area around here! The load factors for the new Mexicana is 92%! That is just to Guardilajara (spelling?)

Those are my thoughts.

RE: Service You Think Your Airport Should Have

  • I still see real potential in a flight from HAJ to GVA. Ideally daily, but 4 pw (days: 1357) should also be okay.
As I do not see any legacy carrier wanting to open up this route (unless LH/LX significantly changes its mind), either AB (now including DI) or X3 are my realistic LCC's for this service. A F100 should be the first choice.

  • Another city not served from HAJ with potential would be DUB served by X3.

  • I have no real opinion, if nonstops to WAW and KRK could be more viable than what C0 did on these routes (C0 flew to KTW instead of KRK) recently (before withdrawl). C0's timings and days didn't cater for business travellers and also for weekend-trips the timings were very bad. At least this drove me away from using C0 (apart from a daytrip to KTW). With better timings there might be potential in both routes (leisure & business plus feed into LO's flights out of WAW).

So HT, you think that HAJ would have good yields to Poland? Is there a heavy Polish minority there?

The load on the C0-flights I have been on was veeery low (< 25 %) and also fares were pretty low.
I just realized that mouse-over does not work for C0 = CentralsWings, the LCC of LOT.

The "problem" is that HAJ is too closely located to the western half of Poland, so many people travel by car, but getting to places east of Warsaw and Cracow is a major hassle, as motorways exist only the western half of Poland (generally spoken).
My personal experince is that traffic has gotten even heavier on route #4 running east from Cracow to the Ukraine; a good portion of traffic is trucks.
The drive from the city of Przemysl to KRK (airport) recently took me about 4 hrs (260km of which 30km were Motorway) but I managed this only by adapting to the local driving style (= excessive speeding).
At the time of booking I was unable to get appropriate flights from HAJ to RZE, which would have shaved off the major portion of the drive, plus road conditions east of RZE are better. We ended up with a flight on LX to KRK via ZRH.
Meanwhile I have seen that LO has upgraded some flight between WAW and RZE fromthe usual ATR to B734 ! And this apparently is due to demand.
Currently a ticket from HAJ to RZE requires 2 transfers: one in FRA/MUC/VIE/CPH and the second one in WAW.

But, those nonstops to WAW and/or KRK from HAJ clearly are only in place #3 of my list; flights to GVA and DUB would be better off, IMO.

I'd really like to see QF serve the major European xities not just LHR and FRA. Some of the destinations which I think might be ideal but won't happen is services to CDG, FCO, MAD and AMS. I also think there is more room for capacity on PER-JNB route as well.

As for BNA, it would be nice to see (not taking into effect IF the market would support it, some may not)

ATL (PLEASE FL come give DL some competition)
BOS (ditto the Atlanta comment, this time with B6)
DAL (Set Love Free!!!)
RSW
LGW (summer seasonal?)
MEX and/or other regional Mexican cities, we have a huge Hispanic population here (I don't include CUN, F9 does that already)
PDX
SFO
SJU
PBI

We have somewhat decent coverage of major domestic markets as a spoke for the hub carriers and as a focus city for WN. WN has added DEN and PHL in addition to frequency in several markets while dropping ISP and MHT and lowering frequency in others. AA didn't do well with London when BNA was a hub, and I doubt the high yield O & D has grown that much. ANy other international services seem more like a pipe dream.

For SEA, I think we should get service from...

CX to HKG. There are many threads and I think it would do well.
LH to FRA/MUC. Yes, I know PDX has service.
WS to YYC/YYZ.
AF to CDG.
Maybe a flight to mainland China (PEK or PVG), although we do have two daily flights to Taipei.
NW to MKE. They should try this as a seasonal route.
Also, maybe AM or MX to GDL or MEX. This could work.

I'd personally love to see YX bring their Signature Service & mainline equipment to YYZ. Never going to happen due to low LFs, but I can dream  Smile

I'd like JetBlue to start non-stop service from CMH to California. That would be ultimate  Smile
Not to mention a couple of 757s into Columbus  Smile

Yeah, I would love to see YX in SEA. It would be nice to serve MCI and MKE from SEA.

From NCE, a CO service to EWR would be favourite, followed by an AA service to ORD (or even BOS at a push).

Another personal favourite would be a direct service by BE to EXT (my sister lives near there).

Otherwise, a service to SIN/KUL, no matter how infrequent, would be marvellous. I suspish that the runway is too short though.

U2 services to regional cities in France would be great too - TLS, NTE, LIL, SXB, and U2 services to BCN, MAD, AGP, PMI would be great (in fact a U2 base)

I can check JetBlue off my CMH wish list...less than a month before they start.  Smile

My list of what I'd like at CMH. May not make any sense, but here it is:

-F9 and/or FL to CMH, although with both in DAY and CAK, that may not happen.

-More mainline service if we can get it. US used to be mostly mainline into CMH, even as recently as two years ago. Now, with the exception of 2 733s to CLT, the HP flights to LAS & PHX & 1 733 to DCA, it's all RJs, anything from the CR9 to the CRJ & ERJ. Virtually all of AA's flights are on ERJs, most of CO & UA's flights are the same. I don't really have a problem with RJs, I just prefer mainline equipment.

-Allegiant Air to LCK. Might be a cheaper alternative to SFB than flying out of CMH into MCO/DAB.

Mandarin Airlines out of FAT.  biggrin  Fresno must have really grown overnight.
But speaking of Tawian, I'm thinking maybe CI out of PHX to TPE which would offer good 1-stop service to various Asia cities instead of going via LAX or SFO.

From my old airport, Bakersfield, CA (BFL):

UA or F9 Express needs to fly BFL-DEN. BFL is the largest metro area west of the Mississippi River without service to Denver.

AA had tremendous luck with BFL-DFW for many years...a CR7 or an MD80 should return.

From my adopted hometown airport, San Diego, CA (SAN):

SAN-RNO. Why doesn't WN fly this route?

SAN-BFL. I'm always hopeful for this route, but realistically, not a chance. Besides, even if someone did, it would be WAY too much $$$$$ for me.

SAN-MIA. I think there are only a couple of cities on the west coast without direct MIA service, SAN being one of them. AA would probably have to use a 757 (no way in hell an MD80 could do that route!), so it would need to be filled up!

SAN-YYZ. Yes, AC will fly this route with a 319, but basing the plane in YYZ, so it is an afternoon departure to YYZ, not a morning flight. I'd love to see the flight timed for more connections.

SAN-LHR. Add my voice to the choir that wants to see the return of a 777 to our skies.

SAN-MNL. PAL could be very successful if they flew SAN-YVR-MNL. Full traffic rights to YVR, not to mention the large number of Philippine bound San Diego citizens who would very much like to avoid the trek to LAX...

SAN-FRA. Okay, that one is just for me.

Hi!

Regarding LIS and just thinking "selfish" not even making any financial studies etc. etc. I would like a return to Canada, YYZ. On the "solidarity" side I would like to see a weekly or even monthly flight from LIS to East Timor....we have a bog east timorese community here and it could be a good way to connect the latest country in the world with Europe. Finnally I would like to see another flight from LIS to the East Coast, BOS, PHL or even JFK again....of course I've been talking about TP!

From OSL I'd like to see:

SAS Braathens split off from the SAS group. Oslo is the most profitable divison by far in the group and yet gets crumbs when it comes to flights. We always have to connect somewhere else.

CO start a IAH-OSL-DXB flight with a specially configured 762 with more business class. There is a lot of traffic between these three cities and yet no service between them. All are major global energy and shipping centers. The front would almost certainly go out full all flights and there would be a lot of cargo revenue. Tranfer traffic between EWR and DXB could also be accomodated. The 757 could continue on to St. Petersburg for example.

I'd like to sse RG operating LAX, JFK, MIA, NRT, LIS, MAD, CDG, LHR, MXP, MUC, JNB, BKK, HKG, CCS, BOG, VVI, SCL... again!
And I'll tell you more, I want these flights with 777, no MD-11 anymore!

Now seriously, I think UA could put a 777 in the ORD-GRU service instead of the 767 and JJ could extend one of it's daily MIA flights to MCO, even if they do this once a week.

Rgs!
