Flight Training; Summer Vs. Winter

Thu Aug 24, 2006 11:38 pm

I am going to be getting my private pilot licence sometime in the next year, and I am wondering if it is better to train in the summer, or in the winter.

If any of you are familiar with Buttonville Airport in Markham, Ontario, do you know of some good instructors there.

I don't live in Canada but from experiences, I'd go with summer. Purely for the fact that the weather is better, more high pressures etc etc... and not so much rain/precipitation (I presume you are going VFR)

Depends on where you live, so this should be asked at your local airport. There are benefits to both seasons. Over here in Los Angeles, you might say summer after thinking of the sun and palm trees but here summer is the worst time because it gets very hot, turbulent, and the haze thickens making visibility no better than a few miles for your cross-countries. Winter the air is much better but you have to worry more about cloud covers and rain.
