Buenos Aires - Can Anyone Help?

Thu Aug 24, 2006 6:17 pm

I need to get my sister to Buenos Aires 16th December to 3rd January from London. All the flights i've seen are over a grand - and I dont have that kind of money! How can I get flights to EZE over this period for under £600? Anyone have any ideas?
What do you mean you dont have any bourbon? Do you know how far it is to Houston? What kind of airline is this???

Hi!

I flew to Buenos Aires two years ago, and the return ticket Venice-Barcelona-Madrid-Buenos Aires cost some 660 € on Iberia. Of course, there were a lot of transfers, but hey the price was okey! How did I find the fare? I kept on checking various country internet sites of Iberia (or any other airline that flew, but iberia was the cheapest by far), and found on www.iberia.it a special offer, the one that was not listed elsewhere, for the above mentioned price, inlcuding taxes. If i am not wrong, the next available fare was with Lufthansa, over 800 €!

You can give it a try, hopefully it helps!

I don't know if you have already seen Buenos Aires, but anyway its a great city!

Have a nice trip!

TAM has promotional fares from LHR to EZE via GRU, it is starting flights LHR-GRU in October. You may check their webpage or better even contact their reservation office in London:

TAM Ticket Office
Buldog House , London Road
Twyford Berkshire RG10 9EU
(0044) (0) 118 903 4003

TAM Reservation

(0044) (0) 870 747 5628

You could also try to route your sister via the US with DL, CO or UA; or you may even try via Canada with AC.

It obviously will be expensive on your proposed time of travel at the peak time of the year!

If you can change your trip to 11DEC out, and 31 DEC return, you can fly on British Airways for £874.60.

You can try getting on a cheap flight to MAD and check Air Madrid but for those dates, a lot of people will be heading back to spend Christmas at home, so loads (and prices) will be pretty high.

You can check Cubana, they do both EZE and LON and are usually pretty cheap.

Awful dates to get good fares. My cousin lives in London and usually buys his ticket for the Christmas holidays in April! The new TAM flight might be a good bet. Good luck.

Chris:

I've flown between the two cities on no less than 10 different airlines. Here is what I would recommend and what I would avoid, obviously on a value-for-money basis:

Yes!

AR - Usually the best fares on the route, with a fairly neat connection through MAD. Decent food, 34" of pitch, well-maintained 744s. My personal favourite.

AV - Not particularly direct, but have seen some decent prices. Must be nice flying such huge distances in 180-seat widebodies (762s).

JJ - Can be a little shambolic on the ground (ie. GRU), but to date I have seen fares as low as £522 return, the best I have ever seen on the route.

KL - KL don't actually fly to EZE, but sometimes you can get interesting fares (as low as £535 return) on AF flights but booking them through klm.com. Worth trying.

LA - Never come across good fares between LHR and EZE (partly because it is such a long journey via MAD and SCL), but people have been known to find them.

LH - Fares under £600 are not impossible to come by, and though somewhat bland, their product is fairly solid. Just bring a good book.

LX - They fly down to GRU (and give you the option of leaving London from LCY, if it suits your sister) and from there code-share with JJ to EZE. Again, good product, worth looking into.

Avoid on grounds of ££££!

AF
BA*

*Unless you start the trip outside the UK, eg. AMS, CDG or ZRH. This typically slashes the fare by 50%--so long as you actually fly them!

Definite No-No's!

AZ (Living up to their acronym...)
NM (Avoid at all costs)
PU (Excellent prices but ticketing system shambollic)
RG (Obvious reasons...)

And anything via North America, the journey will quite literally kill her!

There is one airline that I cannot list in any of the above, but I would seriously keep in mind ONLY as a last resort. They get you there, but not in comfort. In case you haven't guessed it by now, I am referring to IB...

Good luck with the search, there should still be some good deals out there!

Best regards,

ZXV

You won't find anything for that price this late in the year I'm afraid. Best price you can get from london at the moment is on Air Madrid for £965 flying via MAD and FOR (£849 if returning on 2nd Jan). If you must reduce your cost then you'll have to be flexible on your dates. I suggest that you prolong your sister's stay to the 2nd week of January if possible when most of the new year's holiday makers would have returned home. Or have her come back before New Year's as someone else suggested

KL flies to EZE with partner airline TAM via AMS and GRU. As in the case of LX, you may leave from London's only decent airport: LCY.

As mentioned above, I understood you are looking for a cheap flight, so there wont be many options except for maybe a flight via US or Canada.
