PHL, BWI Or JFK - Best For Transfers?

Tue Aug 29, 2006 10:53 pm

I was discussing in another post wether to travel on UA or AA from LHR to MIA, I have chosen AA as my family wish to travel AA again.  Smile

I have the option of connecting at either JFK (AA or BA/AA), PHL (BA/AA) and BWI (BA/AA) into MIA... which is the best airport and which is the best fot transfering?

I've been to JFK many times and found it very easy for transfers, how does PHL and BWI compare?

I have the choice of flying the BA 763, BA 772 or AA 772, which shall I choose?

Well the best airport as far as avoiding delays is BWI. That airport rarely has flow control and all the other delays that you will often see at PHL or JFK. PHL is nice for international, but domestically isn't that great. It is prone to delays. JFK can get delayed too, but at least it has a big terminal with lots of options. If you want easy and boring, I'd say fly BWI. It isn't the nicest of airports, but you shouldn't misconnect. However an AA 738 and BA 763 might not be the most fun planes to fly on. The 777s overall are just nicer. Also I would say BA is better than AA transatlantic, although you can only earn miles on the carrier that you have a frequent flyer program in on flights from LHR. BA members cannot accrue miles on AA and likewise AA members can't accrue on BA despite the fact that they are both one world.
If you have never designed an airplane part before, let the real designers do the work!

I would take AA57 LHR-MIA nonstop.... why connect?

If you need to connect for a lower fare BWI has the least hassles.

The best option of course is CO via EWR or CLE.  Smile But I could be biased.
