Austin To Cairo To Islamabad Routing

Fri Sep 01, 2006 12:39 pm

Hi guys

I have a friend in the US who wants to travel from CAI to ISB on 10th November. His travel agent suggested going via LHR, for the CAI-ISB sector. I was surprised at that suggestion, but when I checked a few online sites, many routings via DXB or Muscat took over 20 hours, for that short distance.

Actually, the whole routing would be Austin, Texas - Cairo - Islamabad - Austin. Arrive in Cairo on 6th November, leave for Islamabad on 10th November and leave Islamabad for Austin on 15th November, all in J class. Schedule in this case would be more important than price.

Is there no quicker way to travel that route? Any advice would be appreciated, my knowledge of middle east flight schedules is close to zero.

He could fly via Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, but that probably would require an overnight stop in Riyadh. Not necesarilly a bad thing, it just could be a hastle. Most stuff will require a layover (a long one) on the Arabian Peninsula, that just seems to be the way things go...so I'd say go for the cheapest, even if it does mean going via Europe

MS used to fly CAI-KHI..then it would have been easy to connect at KHI via PK or ED...anyway.....EY (Etihad) can get your friend in about 14 hours or so..via Abu Dhabi....

the only "problem" is that there is an 8 hour lay-over at AUH..and I heard the airport isn't the best..and the flight doesn't get to Islamabad until Saturday morning...

Fri 10 Nov EY606 Cairo (CAI) Abu Dhabi (AUH) 12.55 18.20

Sat 11 Nov EY233 Abu Dhabi (AUH) Islamabad (ISB) 02.30 06.30

Via DXB should be the ideal routing. There are multiple airlines flying between CAI-DXB and DXB-ISB. My advice would be to go thru a travel agent that specialises in Middle East/South Asian Travel. Plenty can be found in the Houstan/Dallas area.

10th November seems rather bad in terms of CAI-ISB. Either the 9th or the 11th has a nice connection on KU452 connecting to KU205 with a total time of 8h 20m.

Thursday also has an EK connection (EK924->EK612), EY (EY606->EY233), and Saturday has a GF connection (GF70->770).

Friday (10/Nov) seems to have nothing to talk about (3 hops/3 airlines).
Incredible India!
