732's Gone... Next "Classic A/C Type" To

Sat Sep 02, 2006 9:34 am

DL has retired its fleet of 732's. So, if you want to ride a P&W powered classic, head for Alaska or Aloha.

In the meantime... what is the next type to be "retired" by a legacy carrier?

We know the DC-10's are gone from NW at the end of this year... so what's next?

I put my money on the 734's in the US fleet or the 742's in the NW fleet.

What do you all think?

If only NW would get rid of those gosh-awful DC-9s! But they'll keep them going and going, just like the energizer bunny!

I agree on the DC-9, while undeniably long-lasting they are probably reaching their last leg.
In the next decade or so the MD-80 will slowly become extinct as well.

Im tempted to say Thai L-1011s..... but those might just be in service until judgement day... How about those MD-80s from delta ...or MD-90s rather. I apologize if the series is wrong, i am not to familiar with their fleet.

In terms of DL, I think the MD-90's are next to go.

If you want to see some 732's and F-100's come to Northern Canada.

Hell there's even some older stuff than that Big grin

BA 757's
BA RJ100'S/146's

Just a guess. I don't think we will see many BA 737's for much longer.

I think they'll be in service for a few more years, the lack of profitability of LGW S/H operations means no new aircraft for them!

The original CFM powered A320s (ex BCal) will be off soon though...

Delta already is phasing out the MD-80s, but I'm not sure when they will be all gone.

They are not exactly old but there still some MD 90s flying around that will leave soon.
It is somehow sad that that most of the "classics" 737-200, 747-200, Dc 9, Dc 10, L1011 etc have already been replaced in Europe.

AF will phase out its 747-300s.
It will forever be a McDonnell Douglas MD 80 , Boeing MD 80 sounds so wrong

Delta isn't phasing out MD80s, they have a few parked, but there is no replacement plan currently in place for the MD80 a/c and none are scheduled to be retired within the next year or two as of right now.

As stated in the AS retires its MD 80 thread there are rumors that DL is looking to acquire former IB MD 88s and MD 87s.

I read this in the Wall Street Journal around the time of Delta's intent to phase out the MD-11 (which they did). I should have clarified the MD-80's were to be phased out by 2010.

I was hoping they might be, but I heard that they had all been grounded due to a lack of spare parts and were not likely to fly again, correct me if I'm wrong?

Certainly here in the UK the BAe146-100/200/300 will become rarer as FlyBe retire them, but I think BA is going to hang onto the ones that they actually own outright.
