LHR-YVR On BA: What To Expect?

Fri Sep 08, 2006 7:04 pm

Hi everyone!!

next week I'm going to travel from LHR to Vancouver on British Airways. Equipment is a B744 and will also be my very first time on a 747. I'm looking forward to set myself on this beautiful bird and I have some question to you all: what to expect for this flight in terms of service (I'll be in economy), aircraft and Airline?
Any comment (also about the city of Vancouver) is really welcomed!
Thanks and have a nice day!

Hey Ivan!

I haven't flown BA in the last year, but I have flown them regularly on the LHR-YVR route. Service is very good in economy, food is great and I belive that the B744s also have PTVs in World Traveller. I do find that the B744 (not just BAs) are quite squishy in the back as far as leg room goes.

YVR is a great airport to arrive in, lots of windows which brings in natural daylight, and the International Arrivals Area is very well designed. I'm not sure if you have ever visited Canada before, but on the aircraft you have to fill out a customs decleration card, so make sure you have a pen on board. Once you arrive in YVR, after you deplane, make sure you have your passport ready as they may have a quick "pre-passport control" control right after you get out of the air-bridge.

After that, just follow the signs to customs and baggage claim. The passport control is usually divided into three line-ups. Starting with the one on your left, is for diplomats and crews, in the middle is for residents, and on the right is for visitors and residents. Make sure you have your decleration card as well as your passport ready. If you are coming in on BA087 (arrives @ 14:30), the line-ups could be quite long as opposed to BA085 (arrives @ 18:35).

Next up is baggage claim. After you pick up your bags, follow the signs to the main terminal and hand in your decleration card to the officers at the exit.

As far as Vancouver goes, it's a great city, by far one of the most beautiful in the world. Lots of great places to visit such as China Town, Gas Town and Granville Island. Make sure to visit the Old Spagehti Factory in Gas Town and try out one of the many local breweries.

Have a great trip and enjoy BA and Vancouver!

I too am flying BA over the pond to LAX for the first time in a few months and I look forward to it very much. Normally I'd take VS but decided to jump to the boat and try out something new!

When do you fly with them?

Did the route last summer.

I was upper deck on the 744 but as far as the aircraft goes, it's very smooth and quite quiet imo. Certainly an impressive sight.

You'll get a PTV, radio, games, map channel, evening meal and a breakfast. Complimentary drinks. Free things like blanket, socks etc.

You'll be in T4 at LHR, which is slightly... retro. But has some very nice views over heaps of 744s and 777s!

My brother travelled LHR-LAX two years ago and had a very good trip, that's the reason why we chose BA for this trip  Smile

Were you flying business or first? Or BA has economy in the upper deck??

Yes, it'll be BA087!

Many people told me the same thing, so it's time for me to go check personally...

BA did have economy class seating on the upper deck of the B747-200s, but the -400s have Club World (business class) seating on the upper deck.

Quoting IDISA (Reply 4):
Yes, it'll be BA087!

In that case, there could be quite a line up at the passport control area, several flights from overseas and the US arrived in the afternoon hours.

Look forward to reading it!
