Flying From CDG To TLV:BA Or LH?

Tue Sep 12, 2006 11:51 pm

I am soon going to fly to TLV and I would like to experience another airline than LY or AF.Now, I am hesitating between BA and LH.What do you think? What are the schedules for both airline? If I fly with LH, I would like to fly the A346.
Any advice appreciated.
Regards.

Sacha, I take it you are originating from Paris?

BA has the option of two daily flights from LHR to TLV, and with multiple connections to LHR. BA gives you the most options by far.

Are you flying in Economy, if so remember that LH doesn't have PTV's.

If I was you, I would take the LH flight as it is an A340-600, you don't realy need PTV's on a shorter leg  Smile On the other hand, BA operates one of it's two daily flights with a 777-200ER!

Service wise, BA is by far the best though!  Smile

Also remember that AF only operates A320's to TLV  Smile

this is why I avoid AF when I fly to TLV!!!As for LY, I am fed up with their old 767s!!!I want to try something else for once even though it will take more time than a non-stop flight CDG-TLV

it will take MUCH more time than a nonstop flight... Frankly, flying LH through FRA has nothing that exciting...the airport is under (permanent??) renovation, the security check to enter Terminal C is inefficient (had to wait half an hour until they "opened" the 2 x-ray machines at the entrance of the terminal; thus many passengers lost the flight to GVA and we were delayed because the luggage of the stranded passengers had to be removed....) so I tell you, FRA is not a nice stopover at all. And LH...I just went to LAX last weekend with them via MUC and back via FRA. Crews are very nice, but level of serice is low: uncomfortable and narrow seats (both on A343 and 744), no PTVs before 2008 in the best case, bad quality and small televisions, and most horrible food I ever experienced on a plane...!

On the opposite, I flew with BA to new york last january and I was delighted and impressed by the exceptional quality of the service (I could even change my return date a few hours before the flight, at no cost). This being said, I think it is weird to fly from Paris to TLV via London...which is exactly in the opposite direction!

Anyway, it's great flying to Israel, have a nice time!
I bitterly miss the livery that should never have been changed (repetition...)

Finally, I will fly with LY, and again with a 762 Embarrassment .I want a nonstop flight!!!

It is the best solution for sure!
BTW, the 767 was during many years the most comfortable plane in the LY fleet....much more legroom and less noise than in the 747, 707 or 737... It's a pity they haven't modernized the cabin and installed PTVs...
But anyway...TLV is really not that far away

Reminds me of those "Why Lufthansa no PTV's threads"

Never new there was such a market between those cities as to bring those A/C

Jst for that I'd chose to fly something else than AF ! If there is one A/C i am extremely fed up with its those classical A320's. They are like the vanilla icecream of aircraft

Swiss also brings A330s and A340s(as well as A32S) to TLV.AF is the only major which does not send wide bodies at all to TLV.Sorry, but they are ridiculous with their A320s.Even Iberia flies A321s and sometimes 757s to TLV.I don't know when AF will start competition with LY on the CDG-TLV route!!!

indeed. But there are MANY things LY could have done to improve the level of service. For instance, they could have installed PTVs on their 737s flying to Europe...to offer the same kind of entertainment as on many foreign airlines using widebodies for these flights (BA 777s and LX 330s/343s for instance, as already mentioned). There's no reason not to have PTVs in small airplanes (I think MEA has them on their new 320s for instance).

Instead of this, LY is in the most stupid (and costly) process of modifying their great logotype into an ugly and cheap looking "modernized" version...

I think that you are dreaming...LY willl never install PTVs in their 737NG fleet.Their 737NGs still look OK from the inside:the seats are comfortable, the cabin looks new.
Look at their 762 fleet, first:those planes who fly to North America, South Africa, China, really look awful from the inside: no PTVs, old seats, old projector(which are often out of order by the way)...Furthermore, there are often delays with these a/c due to technical problems(when I flew TLV-CDG in April with a 762, we had 4 hours delay, and on the same day, another 762 which had to fly to Mumbay had a delay of...11 hours). What makes me sick is that LY does not react and still plans to operate such a/c for the years to come, without at least refurbishing them, and they don't seem to be eager to buy new a/c!!!

Well, the way the El Al iconic logo is being destroyed is in itself sufficient to illustrate up to which point the current management is desperately bad.

btw, the borovich were the ones behind the collapse of Clubmarket, one of israel's main chain of supermarkets. it was one of the country's worst financial disaster ever, the company being finally bought by competitor super-sol, instead of being liquidated....

and you're right, ly flights are often delayed due to technical problems or incidents. their SMALL fleet is experiencing a lot of technical incidents, and I wonder if it is still a "normal" situation. for instance a few months ago, the automatic pilot of a 73G did not function correctly after t/o from Moscow and the plane fell several hundred meters, it was described as being a very serious situation. more recently, another 737NG lost part of a wing over Italy on the way to marseilles, and the pilot decided to go back to...tlv although the plane was already closer to its destination.

and hutzpa is not a foreign word at LY...They were still using old and noisy 707s when most airlines had already repaced them with modern planes. and 3-decades-old Jumbos (in bad shape!) were still operated for passenger flights until very recently. these are just 2 exemples...there's more to say, but I'm tired it's 2.30 am here in GVA......

but some thought back in 1998 that changing the great livery on the airplanes would be enough to create a new image. obviously, it wasn't....and a decade later, some other bright LY managers imagine that the new image will be created by butchering a unique logo, which is a real masterpiece of graphic design. maybe in a few years, after the livery and the logo updatings, yet some other manager will suggest to change the name of the airline itself into something more "modern" and more fashionable...

However,I would like to say that El Al is not worst than other major carriers.I flew AA this summer, and LY is much better!!! For instance, LY cares about its passengers, contrary to AA.

Not exactly, AZ also flies their A320/A321 onto TLV, as a (strange) choice on that market: all routes out of MXP to TLV, BEY, THR, CAI, DKR and IST are operated with A320/321 aircraft.

you are right, but as you said, they use a mix of A320s/A321s, whereas AF only uses A320s
