Your Verdict On The F100

Mon Sep 18, 2006 8:49 pm

Tough to maintain, inefficient, or something else?

I don't know about operations or maintenance, but I really enjoyed flying in them! My experiences include a couple of times on US and maybe 5-6 x on AA. I miss them!

I just flew in one of those on saturday, AV CTG-BOG. First time ever in a F100. Very nice ride, indeed. Climb was powerful and fast (100% lf), and descent reminded me of those beautiful DC9s, very sharp angle.
Next flights: AV BOG-ADZ-BOG, AV-UA BOG-IAD-ORD-IAD-BOG, BOG-FLL-BOG, LA BOG-MIA-BOG J

I have flown on them many times, and I have to disagree I felt that I was on a plain powered with hair dryers or something.

I have flown on the Fokker 100 many times and I love flying on them, they are a great aeroplane. However, they aren't the most reliable aircraft in the skies and performance wise they are a bit lacking - mainly because of the engines. It’s definitely an underrated aircraft though and it looks good...

I flew one on ORD-ALB back in 2001... nice ride, I remember being very excited to ride in it! They were more interesting to me than the MD-80s (and still are)...

Flew on an Air Berlin FK100 recently from STN-GLA, i was surpised with how
comfortable the seats were and the windows were a great big size for
photography, the only bad thing i can say is that sitting in row 18 so close
to the engines i had to put up with a noise that reminded me of a diesel
powered commuter train!
Flown: A300,310,319,320,321,332,333,346,380, B720, 727,732,733,734,735,738,741,744,752,753,763,772,773

Flew on one once, and absolutely loved the experience... it was just something a bit different to the usual boeings and airbii.

I think the window size is one of its best features!

Noticed the Airberlin, and thier are other LCC operating these. A liitle surprised by that as I thought you dont get good economies per seat on F100's?

Economics might not be as good as 'modern' aircraft, however, they're very cheap to buy/lease so to speak...
don't throw away tomorrow !

I had my first ever F100 experience last Friday from Yazd to Tehran Merhabad with IR . A nice robust aircraft . ( and I thought IR had incredible seat pitch on it for a short haul aircraft - anybody know what their seat pitch actually is - it seemed very roomy to me )

In Iran I imagine fuel economy is not so important as reliability ( the government seems to subsidise all forms of oil )

Only on American when they connected PNS with BNA and ORD. I thought they were a comfortable plane. Still wondering why AA didn't bring them out to the West Coast to help establish service out west.

I don't remember the dates, but I have made three trips on the F100:

US STL-CLT
AA DFW-HSV
KL AMS-MAN-AMS (actually were Air UK at that time)

I personally thought it was a fantastic airplane from a passenger standpoint with the large round windows, and a very smooth ride.

I understand they were a maintenance nightmare though...

I remember I was scheduled to fly on a A320 and an F70 showed up, it was fantastic. But my couple times on an F100 were great. Very comfortable planes in my opinion. Again, like others, not sure about the details when it comes to efficiency, cost, mx, etc...but I sure did enjoy my flights on them!

Personally I love flying the F100 and the F70; when seated at the front they are quieter than the MD80/90 family of aircraft which is handy. Plus they are just so much more fun than the boring busses and boeings that predominantly cruise the skies of Europe today. I have flown them a lot on KLM and also on Air Berlin and GIR Jet, flights I will always look forwards too, even if they are a little bit iffy on the tech side of things!

Fokker should have concentrated their effort to turboprops IMHO. They could have had the F50mk2 by now head to head with the Dash 8. Fokker was a very respected brand in aviation and rightly so. They delivered and their planes were capable.

At least the turboprops.

Ah well.. it was nice to see variataion in the sky in the form of Fokkers. Now it is just Airbus and Boeing. There are still some around.  Smile

cheers
