How Many Miles Have You Flown?

Sun Oct 01, 2006 1:56 am

I've spent quite a bit of time lately on the Great Circle Mapper website, working out how many miles I have flown.

http://gc.kls2.com/

Up to now I have done 126 flights (i.e. take off and landings) and clocked 195896 miles.

That's an average of 1555 miles per flight.

In two weeks I'll be flying from JNB to LHR and that will take me beyond 200000 miles.

My longest flight so far, is 5691 miles, from CDG to GIG. That was during the 1970's on a Varig DC-10-30.

More recently in August this year, I recorded my shortest flight of 117 miles from DUS to FRA on a Eurowing BAe146-300.

What's your total mileage, longest trip and shortest trip?

regards,
varig_dc10.

Apologies for posting something similar to MH148's thread, First and Longest flight.

I did do a search under mileage.

Then as soon as I posted this, the first thread I spotted in the Forum was MH148's.

I've flown around 230,000 miles so far.
My longest flight so far has been AMS-PVG with a KLM 747-400, at 5549 miles.
My shortest civil aviation flight was PLH-NQY with an Air Southwest Dash8, just 39 miles.

By the end of this year I should have reached a quarter of a million miles biggrin

My current mileage balance is at 478536 miles, with probably something around 15000 to 20000 miles yet to come this year...

I'm at 379 flights so far, which gives me an average length of 1262 miles per flight... with the longest segment being FRA-GRU (6093 miles), and the shortest GRU-VCP (51 miles).

So far, I've flown 28290 miles since my first flight in 2001. Over half of my miles were flown in 2005, as you can see:
2001: 3608
2002: 0
2003: 1862
2004: 0
2005: 14938
2006: 7882 so far
Once I bring future flights into the mix, I'll have 37985 by the middle of January 2007, for a total of 15288 in 2006.

My longest flights were MSP-PVR-MSP in 2001 at 1804 miles each. My shortest flights were two separate PHX-LAS legs at 255 miles each.

Couple Million all told . . . prior to my retirement an averge of about 250,000 a year was not unusual . . . now about 50,000 miles a year . . . I saved all my boarding passes . . . just for grins. I used to enjoy the experience, no it is just a means to an end . . . I don't fly Y . . . my simple philosophy, No F, No Go. . .  biggrin

My estimated total point-to-point mileage since my first airline flight in 1966 is 175,000. Most flights have been well under 1000 miles in length, but I have taken a number of transcontinental and trans-Atlantic trips as well.

I've done something similar to that in San Francisco, where you fly around Alcatraz.

But I didn't count it, because it wasn't a point to point journey and it wasn't an aeroplane.

What was your reason for flying from PLH-NQY?

The PLH-NQY (or visa versa) also either carries on to, or has come from LGW which is why I was flying it. Once they knew fairly close to the date of the flight how full the aircraft would be, they used to open up the remaining seats, so just PLH-NQY was bookable for about £19. I don't think they do this anymore though.

I don't know the total because I just started logging my flights in May. I suspect it might be around 100 000. What I have logged is: 11 368 KM. Shortest flight is YEG-YYC at 305 KM. Longest is tied with YYZ-YEG and YYC-YYZ. They are 2769 KM.

Well, my DL SkyMiles Million Miler credit says 1,083,270
Contnental says lifetime 296,036 (includes Qantas & Copa flights too)
US (both new & old) says 157,841
Eastern I would estimate at about 125,000
Midwest Airlines says 78,192 (almost exclusively between ATL-MKE/CWA & GRR)
AA says lifetime miles is 38,317
AirFrance says 102,648 (these are some that I chose not to credit towards DL)
NWA says 61,435
United....none, just don't fly them
Ozark I would estimate at around 25-30,000
Others:
AirTran, don't know miles but lifetime credits of 328 (I would guess somewhere around 100,000 miles
Southwest, I would guess somewhere around 30,000miles

All Told: around 2.2 million and that does not include some like PeopleExpress, FLybe, Gol, Virgin Blue, ValuJet, etc.

Shortest: GSP-ATL (routinely)
Longest: ATL-LAX-SYD

1001756 - kicked over 1 million miles last month.

Longest flight - LHR-BKK-SYD = 10595 miles (TPM)
Shortest flight - UNI-CRU = 9 miles (TPM)

I can't get that Great Circle to do all the flights I've done for some reason, so I'll post my own routemap thing that I use.

Quoting DeltaRules (Reply 30):
1987-end 2006 (including flights I'm yet to take), 165,436 miles

Left a trip to STX out in my other post, so it's actually 169,048 miles.

49,900 on NW since 01, not bad for a guy who doesn't travel for business. I never kept track before 01. Actually I still don't NW keeps track for me. I guess with all the trips I took with my mom and dad when I was a kid and some trips in college I would think it is around 150,000 miles. My dad must be up around 1,000,000 or more with 35 years of business travel. I know at one time he had enough for 21 domestic tickets on TWA.

I'm up to 695,000 miles. My trip next week to Greenland will give me another 10K so I will have over 700K miles.

Longest single flight was back in 1991: MH LAX-HNL-KUL 9378 miles.

I cant seem to post the GC map due filename is too long, and copy/paste is corrupting in A.net

I tried to use flugstatistik.de, but I get an error when I try to log in - what does this mean and what do I have to do to fix it ?

Depends on what browser you're using. For Firefox, go: Firefox > Preferences > Privacy > Cookies

Check: "Allow Site to set cookies", as well as "for the originating site only"

Make sure the "Keep Cookies" is set to "until I close Firefox"

I'm not exactly sure about all my flights, but a safe estimate of what I just calculated is over 130,000 in 18 years. Most common segments are PDX-DEN and PDX-SFO/LAX.

Longest segment: SEA-LHR 4800 miles
Shortest segment: ONT-LAX 47 miles (lasted 12 minutes)

My biggest year had around 15,000-20,000 miles.

a few millions. If the frequent flyer miles are an indication of the actual miles flown (not including bonus miles) then about 200,000 a year on average.
