Germanwings - Ever Fly Them?

Fri Oct 13, 2006 6:50 am

Hey all, my boyfriend and I will be leaving on Saturday for a trip to Austria, Hungary, and Germany (I'll be doing a great trip report with tons of pics once we get home) and we have a flight from BUD to STR on Germanwings. Has anyone ever flown on them? How is their service, punctuality, etc? I heard they are owned by LH, is this true? Their website portrays them as being similiar to legacy carriers in terms of baggage allowance so that's a good thing as we'll have a bit of luggage. Thanks for any info.

Well, Germanwings is owned by Eurowings where LH has shares.

I have flown with them two or three times from BCN to CGN and STR.

I used to fly in 319's aircrafts ad the service and comfortability were good.

Punctuallity in one of this flights were worst due to a maintenance problem. We had a delay of about 3 hours.

I flew them from CGN-BHX in February as opposed to a long coach journey and ferry crossing. I booked the flight 48 hours before it left and got a reasonable fare, the flight was comfortable, almost on time, and I had a whole row free to myself. I didn't buy anything onboard, but you could, however the prices were fairly steep. All in all I would fly them again, for a LCC they are good.

Yes I did a couple of trips between London, Cologne, Munich and Budapest. They were mostly on time, with good comfort, good serivce, and their snacks on board are of good quality. Try the combo thing, which would include a German Beer. Enjoy your flights.

I fly 4U regularly between STN and STR or CGN and have always found the service to be punctual and reliable. The aircraft always seem clean and the staff friendly and helpful.

On the two occasions I've known serious delays, 4U have been very professional in dealing with the problems. A colleague was taking the evening STN-STR flight last year and the aircraft went tech on the taxi out to the runway. 4U arranged overnight accommodation for all of the passengers in the nearby Radisson SAS Hotel and flew them back the next morning as well as giving vouchers for a free flight out to all those affected.

Earlier this year, 26th January, I was on the morning STN-STR flight which was held on the ground at STN because STR had closed following an ER4 slipping off a taxiway in heavy snowfall. We were kept well informed and provided with free food and drink for the 1.5 hours before ATC cleared us to depart.

Even when you have to buy the food on board, its better value for money than some other European LCC's I could mention...
