KLM 747-400 Or Northwest A330-300

Tue Oct 17, 2006 1:14 am

I'm looking at going to Spain this November and will possibly be flying KLM from JFK on KL642 (777-200) and then onto MAD.

Coming back I have the option of flying KL643 on the 747-400 or I can spend the night at AMS and then fly out the next morning on a Northwest A330-300 to EWR.

A plus of flying out on the Northwest A330-300 is that I can spend an extra day in Madrid. A plus of flying on the 747-400 is that well, it's a 747-400!

Which would you choose?

I have flown KLM 8 times and know their service well, curious about Northwest's service.

Well here's the cabins for each airline:

NWA looks better cabin wise with the PTV's etc. Never flown either airline so can't really help you much!

It might be nice to try Northwest though, since you fly KLM a lot and will be doing so on your outbound journey.

Hope that helps!!

Basically, you have your answer

Now you HAVE your answer

I will for sure go for Northwest. You also have to consider that the birds are almost brand new.

EI787> Thanks for the picture, it helps to choose !

I also consider that 2 / 4 / 2 configuration plays in our favor. Try to catch a bulkhead seat!

My 2 cents

Thanks guys, that helped!

On the topic of staying overnight at AMS (I would have a 9hr40m layover) does anyone know of a place to stay or shower inside of the gate area?

Hi AlitaliaMD11!

Staying overnight in AMS can be easily solved (just depending in your budget  twocents . There's a hotel you can access from the gate area in the Holland Boulevard where all the intercontinental flights arrive, just above the Holland Casino and the Museum (two other options where to spend the night  Wink
They have also a shower service there you can use!

I think AMS is a great airport, it has not the tremendous amount of people at LHR or FRA and it is better serviced. They have lost my bags twice though, but they were delivered home right after.

Enjoy your trip!

In your case, NW, you fly KL on the way over, so this is a nice way to compare the two.

Cheap hotels close to the airport: IBIS and ETAP. Both hotels have a free airport-to-hotel shuttle service. Upscale hotels: Sheraton and Hilton, both in walking distance of the arrival hall.
If you don't want to leave the terminal, you can go to the Mercure hotel between the E and F gates. Rooms can be booked for 8hrs only, make sure you reserve in advance, they only have a limited number of rooms and it's usually full.

There are plenty more hotels in and around the airport, for more information you can also contact the Holland Information desk in arrival hall 2. They can assist you making a reservation when you arrive.
