Can You Name The Airline From The FA Uniform Alone

Sat Oct 28, 2006 7:43 am

How many flight attendants can you match to their airline based on their uniform alone? There are only 26 possibilities but more than a couple look very similar.  Big grin

6 - Baniff
11 - Northwest Airlines
14 - Qantas
21 - TWA
23- American Airlines

There's a website of the history of cabin crew uniform www.uniformfreak.com. There are lots of airlines logos on the B747's fuselage that may help you to track down the airlines' uniform.

AC flight attendants wore green back in the 70's not their current dark blue motif.

QF never wore red hats?! Well I'll eat my words cuz I change my mind I don't think its QF but the QF website does show that they did wear red hats in that style. But I think 14 is Qantas the uniform from the late 60s

Care of the QF website itself....

Are you sure, becuaes the AA uniform on uniform freak (1971-1973) has white collar and cuffs and at the bottom of the skirt so I think it may be different.

Could be right. Don't forget, however, the roll-out party and photos were September 1968.

Number 12 is definitely United. That was a very memorable uniform. It also came in Navy Blue, which I saw more often than the red version. And I think number 17 really is Braniff, I think that's the end of the "air strip" uniform.

I wouldn't know where to start but that is a fantastic photograph, a snapshot of a bygone era, pillbox hats, gloves, and the shiniest 747 you'll ever see!

I am sure with

1 Swissair

I think this might be

3 Lufthansa (and not Pan Am), because of the blouse style
6 Iberia (poncho style coat)
8 SAS (must be one of the light blues)
9 KLM (must be one of the lighter blues)
15 BOAC (must be one of the dark blues)
24 Air France (must be one of the very dark blue with a high collar)
25 Air Lingus (shouldn't it be green too?)

National is still missing, weren't they yellow or orange at that time?

And what about World, Sabena, Condor, El Al, South African and TAP? They are on the picture belonging to this group of the first 25.

Quoting SkyvanMan (Reply 14):

It's impossible, because at that time Cathay had not yet ordered 747s. They received the first 747 on 20 July 1979, after some years with the L-1011 as the only widebody in their fleet?

If SAA are in that pic my guess would be 16 or 19 from the shade of blue.

It's amazing how all skirts are cut the exact same length. Apart of course for Number 2, 4 and 17. Really great

20 - it's a tricky one...I cannot see that where she has a collar or not. It could be either National or Delta.

5 - It looks like CX uniform but CX didn't order 747 at that time - not sure whether it's NW or not

Skyvanman - well...did u see a belt that has three colours (red, white and blue)? Of course, it belonged to American Airlines' belt

Just tell me one thing. Don't they *all* look special wearing a dress uniform. A female always looks nice in a dress or gown. Call me old fashioned  Smile
