New Color Scheme For American Airlines

Sun Oct 29, 2006 11:21 am

I saw a thread on color-schemes for American Airlines. I think that it's time for American to come up with a new color scheme. Here's my idea.

Big version: Width: 754 Height: 395 File size: 873kb

I'd like to hear what you all think.

What are you smoking? That color scheme is fit for some holiday charter airline out of the UK!

That livery is aweful.

I also think white, at least on top, is going to be a probability.

Oh no, too much blue. Good effort though! I give you honorable mention! It looks too Middle Eastern in design style.

Horible mention? That's not nice...  Wink

Seriously, I understand the effort with the waving flag, but I have no idea where the yellow comes from.

If AA is going to do anything, it must remain with blue, red, white and silver.

Paint the top white, take the flag off the front and bring the cheat line through, make all that is yellow white, make the red more red, and improve the waving flag logo, and it's not a bad effort.

As is, it's out of character for AA.

wait a minute. Can you lighten up the blue a little bit, change the tail to white and slap Atlantic Blue Airways on it. I might just use it for my new airline. I like the logo.

Its not ugly guys, its actualy a really attractive c/s. It just has nothing to do with AA's current livery. The logo thing looks like SQ's logo too.

AA will have to do something for the 787. Can't exactly do polished CFRP and they can paint it white/grey/siver but it's just not going to be the same effect.

I agree! Especially the second of the two from Modified Airliners. It's new, classy and highlights AA well.

To the thread starter, nice effort! Not a match for AA but, maybe for a smaller cruiser airline or a S.A. airline out of MIA.

I recall seeing colorized pictures of old prop planes from the 1930's (Curtis Condors and the like) in those basic colors, dark blue fuselage with red trim. Your theme has a "Back to the Future" element to it. The golden "wings" look too much like Singapore Airlines' symbol to me.

Some fellow, a year or so back, had an idea for a new AA scheme only he used the current three color stripes and jazzed it up a little. Those, I thought, had serious promise.

I have always liked the polished metal of AA. I agree with those who want no change; its a classic. AA should work on the bottom line, customer service and their route network, not recreating a new image.

The thing that makes this livery so unlikely it that there is almost no American feel to it.

How can you have an airline called "AMERICAN AIRLINES" and not have the traditional red, white and blue?

You need to read the history of the carrier and the scheme they used prior to 1968 and the current red, white and blue.
Boy, are you in for a surprise!

It will not work for sure. Nothing "American" about the blue.

The second proposal is - actually - an awesome livery and would represent AA well (though the engine nacelles need a thread of red to make the scheme all together perfect.)

However - I remain a fan of AA's current livery and wouldn't mind if it wasn't changed at all. It is simply stunning and remains so today.

Remember that first peek at an AA 777? The sparkling silver, red & blue looked youthful and dazzling all over again.

Good effort. Not really my taste, but everybody has different tastes.

The one thing to keep in mind with liveries is the weight of paint. The color scheme you came up with would add hundreds of extra pounds of weight to the aircraft. That eats up a little fuel each time. The polished metal look is a classic look, true, but it is also an easy and cheap to maintain and fly look.

Not my taste either, it isnt very eye appealing to me. But yes it is a good effort to try and do something different.

I would prefer to keep the classic look on AA for now.
