Your Longest Layover?

Wed Nov 08, 2006 8:26 pm

Title is pretty much self explanatory. How long is/was your longest layover?

For me...

Spent a total of 9 freeking hours in Atlanta!!! I now severely dislike parts of that airport  Silly

MAH-BCN-MAD, that was a ridiculous 7
hour layover, my are those marble floors cold to sleep on at Barcelona!

I have an 11 hour layover coming up at ZRH when flying BCN-ZRH-BHX, but I shall have work with me so it shall actually be quite a welcome chance to catch up on it!

Mine was at SIN on my way to PEN. 8 hours in total. Spent some time in the bar, then around the pool on the roof, then went in to the city before heading back for a 15.25 departure.

I had 7.5 hours in ICN from doing LAX-ICN-KIX. Absolutely great airport, I am glad it wasn't PHL or something.  Smile

Just horrible!!!

About 9 hours at JFK.

I arrived at EWR from LAX and had to take a shuttle to JFK for my flight to AMS with SQ. It was in the early 90s and don't know what terminal it was, what I do remember is that there only was 1 newspaper stand and Burger King. Not very exciting.

My longest layover was probably only 5 hours at ORD, coming from CLT, heading to SFO. I was on United...Bad scheduling on my part I figure.

I have spent many more miserable hours waiting for planes at my original departure point because of mechanical error or weather though..Most memorable has to be 6 hours in EWR due to weather, over 10 hours in IST due to mechanical problems.

Mine was around 11. I was traveling to BEY. MCO-AMS-BEY...The wait is AMS was around 11 hours. MCO-AMS Martinair...AMS-BEY...KLM.

IMO, AMS is one of the cleanest and travel friendly airports in Europe that I have ever flew to.

I have a crazy layover coming up at LHR. My flight lands at 7:40 am and then my next flight leaves at 9:45 pm. That's close to 14 hours. Thankfully I have a friend in London that I will be meeting up for the day. Will get to see London in the december cold weather  Smile and grab a bite to eat along with a couple pints Big grin

Can't wait for it...

Mine was something around 12 1/2 hours - I arrived at LGW from HRE sometime before 6 in the morning, my onward flight to HAJ left LHR at something around 18:30... it was winter... it was annoying... I was cursing the decision not to fly to FRA and get to HAJ by train that whole day...

Not strictly a layover since the aircraft we were flying home on (MYT DC10-30, G-BYDA) went tech on us.

Flight MYT055/6 from La Romana, Dom Rep - Montego Bay, Jamaica - Manchester, UK. G-BYDA landed at La Romana and we boarded for the 1 hour flight to Monego Bay. Before we landed, the aircraft had a hydraulic problem. We landed safely but it was 52 hours before our onward flight eventually departed for MAN! It was a shame having to stay in a 5* AI hotel in Ocho Rios while MYT sent an A332 to take us home!

Once had a 4 hour layover in Green Bay, WI when North Central has what is called a focus city there in the 70's. Believe me when I tell you there is nothing to do in the GRB airport then.

In March will have a 7 hr layover in TPE waiting for my flight to HKT after traveling from LAX. Normally I wouldn't have booked this, but China Air airfares were $600 less than the other airlines, and more me that is mucho dollars that I can spend on my vacation.

I think the record for me was 18 hours or so between US-SEL, then from SEL-YEC. Arrived at night, departed the next day. IIRC, we stayed with relatives in Seoul.

Longest at an airport that felt like I wanted to die, 2:15 at CLE. I walked every terminal up and down, went through the tunnel connecting C and D countless times, used an internet kiosk, and I was STILL bored!

Around 6hrs at IAD. Connecting from RIC on UA Express to an LHR bound BA flight. I would have driven had my car not been in one congealed block about 18inches high having been crushed on the interstate...

Fortunately I had lounge access to both the United RCC (although technically I shouldn't have!) and the BA lounges. It passed surprisingly quickly but made me really value those shiny airline cards in my pocket. I guess had it not been Xmas Eve I'd have gone to the Udvar-Hazy Museum...

10 hrs in Memphis in June 2001, thanks to Delta who cancelled all their MEM-ATL flights for some reason that day and rebooked them all on NW's flights.

Something like 6 hours in CDG after arriving from KEF and connecting with AZ to MXP. CDG T2 is simply appalling, lot of thrash and garbage anywhere, no air conditioning working (and it was July...) and I really get bored to death... Also the aircraft was late and I had to stay for another 2 hours with nothing to do... bored

Try beat this. I was going home for christmas holidays and was going from YYZ-LHR-DXB-DAR. I had to wait a freaking 12hrs at heathrow!!! Damn it made me hate heathrow even more and I had to spend another 5hrs in Dubai but that wasnt so bad since they have huge windows where you can watch planes land and takeoff.

Longest was SEA-HNL-AKL with a 2 day layover at United's expense since due to a mechanical failure, the SEA-HNL flight was delayed, so we got two free nights in a hotel in Hawaii. That was back in 1991 when there was real customer service on airlines.

I had a scheduled 24 hour layover DEL-SEL-SEA in 1999 with Asiana. They gave us a hotel for free as we were in business class.

My longest layover that I spent in an airport was 8 hours in SIN (UA NRT-SIN, IA SIN-BLR).

My longest layover in the US was SEA-DFW-CUN with a 4 hour layover.

My longest layover was in "El Alto" in La Paz, Bolivia. It was 10 hours. We landed at 6:00 AM and were due to fly to Cochabamba a couple of hours later. A labor protest kept us grounded. Altitude sickness set in within a couple of hours.

I think mine was a 9 hour (overnight) layover in YYZ. Came in from CUN and had a flight back to LHR the next morning, wish I'd booked a hotel!!

On the plus side, the groups of 4 seats they have there make a very comfortable bed  Smile
