Is US' Product Really That Bad?

Sat Nov 11, 2006 8:24 pm

Ok - I've been a loyal customer of US since 1997 and have never had any major problems with them. Lately, I've noticed a TON of posts bashing US/HP for their poor operations and service. Granted their operations at PHL are poor, do you think their domestic product is really that bad??? I've flown on them cross country several times and i've enjoyed it. Compared to other domestic US airlines - they offer a good product - in my opinion. WHY IS EVERYBODY BASHING US ALL THE TIME!!!

Cheers

Not everybody is bashing US. The thing is that once some A-net member had a bad experience with an airline, they keep mentioning it in a post about that particular airline, even if it's not the subject. (of course, some members...not all...).

For a while there were a couple of anti IB posts, then it turns to anti NW, then it's KL bashing, and so on.... I guess we all have our preferences, I never had any big problems on NW or IB and happy to fly witrh them, others prefer UA or BA. That's why they are all in business.

Enjoy US/HP and ignore the bashing, defending a company usually doen't help in a "bashing post", it only keeps the post "alive".

Ya they are really that bad.. They should learn how to paint some of their planes. Take a look at their paint job every now and then. A company should have pride in their planes and many of theirs are a disgrace. If an airline can't upkeep the planes very well, how can one expect them to maintain the rest of their operations? Should check out CO as they will gladly accept you with well maintained planes and staff.

My first trip with US in 5 years was a week and a half ago. Go read about it in the BHM Meet thread, pt 4, in Non-Av. I'm not going to repost it here. needless to say, I will continue to burn off the remaining US Dividend Miles I have on UNITED and that will be the end of my US days. From the Reservation for this trip to the execution - it was a 5 star Clusterfuck all the way around . . . .

And I WAS Chairman's Preferred, with several hundred thousand miles a year on US . . . . so I know what the product was . . . . and I now know what it has turned in to . . . .

I'll stick with UA and CO, thanks.

Sounds like you're bitter about the fact that the weather was bad and you got rebooked and had to spend a night in Vegas - cry me a river... it happens with EVERY airline - not just US Airways.

I share your frustration with missing your flight and getting rebooked - but I was hoping to get some information on how US' product in SPECIFIC is poor, in your minds... Missing your flight and getting rebooked is a part of air travel, no matter what airline you are booked on - its just the luck of the draw.

Until you can provide some solid facts and figures that US cancels/delays their flights more than other airlines, I'm not buying it.

I have a TR that adequately describes a just post merger experience on HP. I also have one from last year on US. I'd have to say that I agree with the sentiment that they are no longer the airline they were and that they really do need to learn a thing or 90 about customer service - from the reservations process all the way to the guys who take forever to get your bags.

While every airline has their fair share of surly and arrogant employees, I'd have to say that US is among the top three for airlines I've flown over the last four months. I think once they get their collective act together and figure out what they want to grow up to be, things will get better.

That said, I think they have a looooooooooooong way to go and a good portion of their reputation - both here and elsewhere - is well deserved.

I'd get into my experience with them trying to make a booking over the phone that couldn't be done over the net last night, but I don't need the aggrivation.

Then I guess you better re-read the damn post . . .

The ENTIRE trip was screwed into the ground from the 6 hour delay before I ever got on the first flight to the whole day delay on the last flight.

Stifle yourself . . .

Tell you what, check with HP folk here and see if HP didn't Tech Stop every night for a week with their PHX-ANC flight the first week of Nov. How about just reading the on-time rankings for the DCA-PHX flight (60%). I don't have to research a damn thing . . . it's already been done.

Further, you could do a little reading in Civ-Av about the 5 star clusterfuck the entire reservation turned out to be. If not for the terrific assistance of an A-Netter who is also a US Res Agent, I doubt I could have gotten it straight. I had no less than a dozen itineraries for this one week trip, that's preposterous.

And apparently you can't put two and two together either . . . .

I said, I was Chairman's Preferred. Now anyone with any common sense at all would understand that means I flew US at LEAST 100,000 miles a year (and in fact in my case very close to 200,000 miles in 1998). If I didn't like the US product back then would I - or anyone else - be stupid enough to give them over 100,000 miles of business???

Compared to UA or CO, they cannot compete. In the late 1990s, their product was really coming along nicely. Running the gamut from Revamped F menus, decent selection of snacks in the US Airways clubs, new Airbii aircraft, on and on. Currently they have been and remained stagnant going further down the scale as compared to UA or CO. They are definitely living up to their Stock Symbol: LCC.

I will use my remaining US miles - to fly on UA.

All good in theory, but given the financial state of a FEW airlines, I doubt they have the cash to splash on paint at the moment  Wink
