Does Anyone Like Ryanair?

Mon Nov 13, 2006 12:32 am

I'm just curious seeing how they seem to be not well received in terms of customer service. I've never flown them. and from what i've heard, I probably won't. There are some pretty low class carriers in the U.S, but none of them approach the level of Ryanair.

That being said, i'm sure there are some people on here who like them. So all you closet Ryanair fans out there, it's time for a roll call.

Well,

I've always said that I'd never fly one of these no frills airlines, but....
Last year I went on a friends bachelor party in RIX. I unfortunately had no choice in how we flew, the guy that organised it chose Ryanair as our chariot, (much to my disgust!!) I was not looking forward to dragging my ass to STN at 4 am (I live in West London) but I have to say it wasn't that bad. For what you pay for the ticket you can't complain, don't get me wrong here, I still would never CHOSE to fly them, but they wern't that bad.

As far as customer service...
No complaints, the queues were a bit long at check in but that's about it.

Not many people like FR, I don't like them but that doesn't stop them making money! Last week FR announced record profits for the first 6 months of 2006. I admire FR but I wont fly them mainly because of the fares, I could get similar on Aer Lingus out of LHR, ORK, DUB, MAN and BHX and get a better service too.

I beg to differ.

I love FR (and all other LCC'S) as they have allowed my family and I to travel around europe more often than we would have otherwise. I have limited finances for these trips so if I can save a few quid on the flights, thats great. They have also forced the older more traditional airlines to buck up and they now offer a cheaper service. This also benefits many travellers who do not wish to fly an LCC.

I always check the traditional airlines for flights when booking on an LCC. I have yet to find a price within 10% of an LCC's price so I have always booked LCC's. The only time I flew on BA I could not say it was any better than an LCC, even FR. They got me to the airport I wanted to go to. Thats what an LCC does.

Some? Record profits and full planes equate to a tad more than some. I choose not to fly Ryanair, Southwest and the lot, but I'm happy they made air travel affordable to the masses.

Some as in "members of this website", not some as in "society as a whole".

Having read all the bad reports about FR, including thousands of postings on this website, I was dreading my first flight with them. I was expecting rude and unhelpful service, cramped seating, dirty planes, a rugby scramble to get abroad etc.

The reality was totally different. Check-in and boarding were handled professionally by friendly agents, the cabin crew knew their jobs and seemed polite, the plane was brand new and clean, we pushed back on time and arrived early, and my luggage arrived safely. As a result I have flown FR many times since and every flight has been uneventful. Not once have I encountered bad or rude service (and I have even contacted FR customer service at Dublin who were helpful). There was once a delay (and we were kept fully informed whilst waiting) but generally FR has been very punctual - even early on a few occasions.

FR is perfectly adequate for short flights without frills. What is more they enable me to VFR far more often than previously, usually at fares that are a fraction of what I used to pay. I admire them, and their MOL, for what they can do so successfully and I get angry when people slag them off.

 checkmark

I've flown FR 10 times now and I can't say one negative word.
One flight out of ten was 2 hours late, but the rest departed on time and landed earlier than in the time table. Aircraft were brand new and crew on board and at check in was polite. Once my passport was to expire a few days after the flight back home. As he didn't know the date of my return flight, the employee at the check in desk asked very kindly how long I would stay abroad and whether I knew that my ID would expire. That's customer service...
Not to talk about the fares...
I will choose FR again.

Sorry I should have said on A.net and the press.
There are lots of advantages that FR and other LCCs offer. I am able to fly with my favorite airline more now that FR have forced Aer Lingus' fares down. I know thats not what FR really want but it increases competition and I have choice, Aer Lingus, Ryanair or BA. Also, FR have started flights to places that may not have any flights to London or Dublin or any other major Euro city before. This is why I admire FR they can do this and make money.
There are some aspects of the airline I dislike or even hate but that can be said about any airline I just have a few more dislikes about FRBig grin

With FR in general you get what you pay for. There's a plane, some food for sale and the staff do their job without any fuss. They're never going to be SQ or CX so why bother trying I think is their view

However, when things go wrong there is very little back up. Whereas someone like BA might put you into a hotel or bring in a replacement plane FR and other LCC's tend to leave you out in the cold.

I like FR.
They made a trip that I never really believed possible, economically and time worthy possible. And we had a great time too.
FR was my first LCC flight, so I cant compare, but Ive flown enough charter over the years to know what "bad" is, and FR wasn't bad.
Check in, no queue, first to board, nice amount of legroom, cabin crew seemed nice enough and flights on time.
Its time for people to get over FR and learn to live with it.

Seems a little close minded. You need to form your own opinions before saying this kind of thing.

I don't mind them, as others have said, they are cheap, they have a pretty good punctuality record and they get you from A to B. What I don't like about them is all the added extras, I would actually prefer it just to be lumped in with the ticket price like Easyjet, it still wouldn't stop me booking with them, but it would make things a darn sight more straight forwards.

Well, I guess everyone can't be open minded to everything. But in all honesty, when all is said and done, there's not an airline I wouldn't fly (with a few exceptions in Nigeria and the like).

I've travelled many times on FR and would recommend them (as well as other European LCC's) to anyone on a budget.

Their fares cannot be beat, staff is friendly, served airports (even though are sometimes a distance from your destination) are easily accessible by public transportation and I have never had a problem with them.

Reading all the "horror" stories some people care to share with us, I have come to the conclusion that its way past due that passengers start taking some responsibility themselves and doing their own research before they travel. But it seems that many people expect to get first class service for no cost to them all with only two clicks of their computer mouse.
