Would You Pay $500 To Fly In EK 345 F Class?

Mon Nov 13, 2006 4:10 pm

The difference on a one way CHC-SYD is only $500 over Y. At 6:45PM, there should be dinner as well. Is it worth it just for the experience? I'll never have the chance again...

I was thinking I would fly Y in one direction and F in the other, so I could try both classes.

For some strange reason, buying two one way tickets in Y (SYD-CHC, CHC-SYD) is cheaper by $20 than buying a round trip, so it makes it easy to buy a Y in one direction and an F in the other. What's weird though is if I try to book F roundtrip, it won't let me, but if I book two individual F's, there are seats. J is available both ways as an R/T. For whatever reason, the Saabre system is getting some strange stuff happening with EK between SYD and NewZealand (both AKL and SYD).

You do realise the flight is on an Airbus a340-500.... not a Boeing  Wink

Only messing. I'd believe it would be a great trip for the experience of travelling EK. I can only dream of flying on board EK.

without a doubt. Premium fares on EK across the Tasman are amazing compared to what QF and NZ charge. You will get more than dinner. I flew AKL-SYD in J class and you get a 4 course meal on a 3 hour flight. EKs service in J and F is simply amazing

The service style on A340-500 in First Class is called 'Room Service'. So you can order much or as little as you would like from the menu. My only fear is that for a short sector you wont want to get off in SYD.

500 dollars to upgrade to first class is DIRT cheap!! I would not miss that opportunity. Go for it. If you meant 500 Australian dollars, that is like a free ticket!

definately pay the $500 to upgrade to F. One of the best F products around. Check out some pictures on this site. I believe there is a trip report on the F product of the EK A345 as well.

JFDI. It may be your only chance to fly EK First, and for 500 bucks....

If you don't you deserve to be taken away by men in white coats, put in a padded cell, and observed for the rest of your life.

Enjoy.

I'd do it in a heartbeat - and I am not rich. Go for it. As you are an enthusiast, you will appreciate the experience that much more. The price differential is quite low, compared to most 1st class tickets. And that particular 1st class is a cut or two above, from what I hear.
