Flying This Thanksgiving

Tue Nov 14, 2006 1:39 pm

(apologies in advance if this is a duplicate thread)

With one of the biggest flying weekends of the year coming up, it should be interesting to see where a.netters are flying this holiday. Maybe we can have a little competition to see who is traveling the farthest.

Here's my rough itinerary:
Thurs. 11/23 - BOS-CLT-CAE on US Airways (757 connecting to CRJ)
Sun. 11/26 - CAE-DCA-BOS on US Airways (CRJ connecting to A319)
Hydrogen is an odorless, colorless gas which, given enough time, turns into people.

Tues 11/21: MCO-RDU on Southwest (Boeing 737....shocker there, huh?)
Sun 11/26: RDU-MCO on Southwest (Boeing 737.....another shocker.  Wink )

As of now, planning to meet another a.netter at the airport before I head out and possibly when I come back too.

I was talking with a TSA manager last Tuesday and he said IAH is estimated to get more passengers on the Wensday before Thanksgiving than any other airport in the world.

Again, this is what I HEARD from a TSA manager.

Wed 11/22 - ATL-DFW on DL1059 with a MD-88

Sun 11/26 - DFW-ATL on DL943 with a 757

Even though I could non-rev, I'm not even chancing it. I bought a ticket for $230 R/T. Not too bad I don't think!

I'd say that's a pretty safe bet. And for those posters who mentioned that they're going home for Thanksgiving, you should join the a.net Facebook group, if you haven't already.

Of course, almost everyone's flying back on Sunday. When I was pricing my trip, looking at flying into Charlotte on B6, the return fare on the 26th was easily 2.5 or 3 times the fare for flying down there on Thursday. There's supply and demand for you.

Nov 19: ACV-SFO (EMB 120); SFO-DEN (777!!!!) and DEN-MCI (757)
Nov 24: MCI-DEN (CR7); DEN-SFO (757) and SFO-ACV (EMB 120)

All on UA and UA-Ex of course.

I flew on the 777 for the first time last Thanksgiving (SFO-DEN) while on my way from Humboldt to KC. UA revised my flight schedule after I purchased the ticket, so I was able convince the reservation agent to rebook my return trip through ORD instead of DEN so I could ride in a 777 a second time. Since then, I have flown on the 777 in Asia (CX BKK-HKG and HKG-TPE). The Triple 7s are a treat to fly on!! Now if UA-Ex would only send a few CRJ's up to ACV like they did a few years ago.......

You'll love it. I flew on lots of TWA MD-80s and they are were just fine. A bit noisy in the last couple of rows, but other than that no trouble at all.

The price to fly to STL on Thanksgiving morning and to fly home to DTW on Saturday night was way cheaper than leaving Wednesday and coming home Sunday.

Getting back from a business trip two days before Turkey Day. Parents driving in from North Carolina to spend Turkey Day at our house but then I'm leaving on Sunday of the weekend for another business trip.

11/21 - DL65 MAN-ATL (Coming home from business in the UK)
11/26 - DL1499 ATL-DEN (Going to Denver on business

Not so much Thanksgiving travel but

11/29 - DL64 ATL-MAN
12/07 - DL65 MAN-ATL

And then 3 weeks of vacation so no more travel until the new year.

Wednesday: LAX-YYZ (AC 320) YYZ-LHR (AC 763) LHR-PRG (OK 734) PRG-LCA (OK 735)
Sunday: LCA-PRG (OK 735) PRG-STN (OK 735) LHR-YVR (AC 763) YVR-LAX (AC 319)

AC was unbelievably inexpensive - and I only booked last week - probably cheap because there's no Thanksgiving in UK... The CSA flight is a OnePass award ticket: pity about the STN-LHR glitch, but I think 5 hours is enough to make that connection, hoping...

Home from College:
WED 11/22 SY710 PHX - MSP B738 - Late Evening
SAT 11/25 SY701 MSP - PHX B738 - Early Morning

It's a short trip, but it saved $80, I have classes on the 22nd until 4:30 PM, and after Thanksgiving it's hunting season in Wisconsin, so most of my friends aren't even going to be around.

There is more to Thanksgiving than celebrating some sanitized history of Pilgrim/Native American relations, you know. Giving thanks, I think it's called. One would hope that being thankful for things is not just an American concept. I was just wondering if Britain had a designated day on which people were supposed to be thankful.
