TAM Or AF To Rio

Thu Nov 16, 2006 6:17 pm

Hi

I had booked some AF flights in business class from LON to RIO. I can now get Tam. Question is which is better.

I know that Tam have a 100% flat bed seat in business and AF is not totally flat. Also Tam offer there business class pax transfers.

Just that Tam is not that well know in the UK. In general if you have flown Tam long haul what did you think of them?

Hello!

1-Unfortunately none of them (so far, as of today) has flat beds in C class. Only in F.
2-AF B747-400 are old and packed. Upperdeck is usually not for C class, most of them F, and sometimes Y. Tam's A330 are brand new planes.
3-TAM service is much more pleasant and less snobbish.
4-AF Terminal in GIG is old and dirty (#1). Tam arrives at #2 much newer Terminal.

If I were you (I ma French, and live in RJ) . I would take TAM. ( I would have taken TP, By the way, because they have flat beds in C)

If I you fly before Jan 12th, TAM fly make a stop in GRU. After Jan 12th it is a direct flight.

Dear Maperrin, you're not really up to date Smile. AF 747 are bearing the new NEV seats in J for a while now and doesn't have anymore F. Upper deck is Y.
The new AF product is really great. I never flew Tam, I heard it's a good airlines, but I read in other posts that AF in-flight product was better than Tam's

TAM offers 180 degrees flat seats, while AF offers 165/170 degress seat. TAM seat if horizontal or flat, whichever you prefer.

AF B747-400 are refited, brand new, featuring the NEV product. This is a very good busienss class product. [But you are right, that TAM's plane is much newer than AF B747].

This is subjective, but I agree that TAM's service is really top quality.

Valid point here. TAM arrives in the new GIG T2, while AF operates in the old GIG T1. [However, AF keeps a new business class lounge in GIG T1, which sometimes is overcrowed because AF flights in GIG almost always operate with 100% load, and the AF lounge is small and shared with DL, CO, and CM].

Departure is from LON, and TAM will fly CDG-GIG nonstop. So he has two options:

1. Connect in CDG with AF
2. Connect in GRU with TAM

My experiencies in CDG were never good, and certainly would prefer a TAM transfer in GRU.

Hi, On that point please go to :
http://www.tam.com.br

Clik on :"services"-> "classes of Service". Business class seats do not look as flat beds. First class do.

No, business and first class seats are lie-flat in TAM:

You can view the business class seats by clicking on the links below:

Some details:

1- Frequent Flyer Program - You mention has booked past trips with AF - A Business Class Trip LON-PAR-RIO R/T could allow you to almost anchieve/keep silver status. With TAM, you will become Blue Fidelity with a C Class LON-RIO trip.

2- Airports:
Flying thru CDG will allow you to arive early in Rio and you need to depart just 1h before Tam connecting flight. Thru GRU, you will arive GIG around 10 AM.

3- Lounge:
Tam does not offer a lounge at TPS2 in GIG, you will need to wait on another terminal. Using AF you can wait for your flight in a very confortable lounge.

4- Service and seats:
Tam IMO is better

5- Fares:
Tam offer very good fares on their new service CDG-GIG as well as on LON-GRU-GIG.
