I've always had a penchant for sitting with a not too hard on the eyes F/A

I'm taking an MD-80 from ORD to TUS in December and back. I'm in 11A on each leg. I prefer the front (its quiet) and the port side since it is the 2 seat row vs the 3 across on the starboard.

I always try to sit in front of the wings because of the noise but the exit row (reclining only!). I prefer the aisle but will do the "A" window seat because I only have to climb over one person if I need to get out.

If you like a rollercoaster, see-saw, up-and-down ride, go for a seat at the extreme tail of the aircraft.

I, personally, believe that those are the worst seats on an MD-80. In my opinion, the best seats are right over, or directly in front of the wing.

As my call-sign states, I am a HUGE fan of the MD-80. On any of the 80's I fly I always try to get a window seat on the port side of the airplane infront of the wing. In the 2-3 config. sitting on the port side leaves you with at the most 1 person to climb over and the ride is much more smooth compared to riding in the back and alot quieter.
The only way to fly is by the seat of your pants...

as far forward as possible. I fly the AS MD-80s as much as possible, and if you can get rows 8-11 or so (starboard side in this case for the 2 seats), what a dream ride that is. Quiet quiet, just love it.

Better enjoy them while you can! You probably read about the sale with Allegiant.

I'd like to sit here:

But if those seats are booked I will settle like most here for the front left side.

I like just on or slightly in front of the wing. On AA, usually around row 14-17 works for me. That way I can still hear the whining of the Pratts but it is not terribly loud. I am weird like that, as I actually like hearing the engines.

When on the DC10 I'd use the back lavatory just to get a good listen of the #2 engine, so I guess on some level I can relate.

Yes - the farther forward the better. Sooo quiet, and an unobstructed view. And the two seat side (left) is more comfortable (less interruption for bathroom breaks, etc)

You want to avoid the seat directly in front of the exit row over the wing, since it likely will not recline.
I come in peace

Last summer I flew SMF-DFW-ORD-TUS on AA's MD-80s. I, too, like the port side window seat just in front of the wings.

You had to make all those stops just to get to TUS from SMF?

On my last flight on a Mad Dog I was sitting in row 34A (SAS) all you can see when you look out of the window is the engine cowling and all you can hear is the noise coming from it (them). But I had expected it to be much worse than that. Still- I'd rather sit in the front part of the aircraft where you don't even hear the engines starting up from.  Smile

I'm always happy when I can get a seat behind the wings to be able to see the flaps. So 28F sounds great to me...  Smile

When I have to fly on a MD-80 series aircraft I always try to get a seat as far in front as possible because it is really quiet there. I am trying to get a seat as far in front as possible on all flights with planes that have rear mounted engines.

If it's an AA MD80, then I'll take 26A. Why?
-Window seat on the 2-seat side
-Get to hear those engines the proper way Big grin
-DC power

If it's just any other MD80, then I'll take that or 28F.

Not the back of the plane... Once on a jetsgo MD-83 any time the engine was at idle i had to plug my ears because of the noise... it was only once the engines spooled up that it was ok, but still pretty loud...hey can i take the jump seat? that would be far enough fwd or all the noise!

Unless I'm traveling in a group of three, I always go for the two-abreast side! And by always, I guess I mean on the one MD-80 (or any 2x3 configured plane) flight I've ever been on...

And I just booked another trip to 'Bama in June - take my daughter to see Grandma  biggrin

Booked 3A on the MD80 from DFW-BHM and 3A BHM-DFW.

Can someone explain to me why AA's first row in F on those MDs is listed a row 3?
