FF Programs:Miles/Points Earned:what's Best?

Fri Nov 24, 2006 2:21 am

Hi folks

I have joined the Flying blue program and Iberia plus program. In Flying blue, you earn miles for the flights that you have done. However, on IB plus its points that you earn.
I think there's more transparency with miles because you can anticipate using Grat circle mapper how many miles you will earn. Then depending on the conditions(25% of total miles on some foights and 100 % on others) you can calculatefrom the total amount of miles.

However, with IB plus its not possible to calculate the amount of points you will earn. Thus I think there is less transparency and I wonder how these points are calculated.

Here are my quasetions :
1) Which system do you think is better?

2) How are the amount of points calculated?

3) Which other FF uses points rather than miles?

Regards

i tried Northwest world perks, for a while, i got status, but then decided to switch to United. I personally prefer United's FF better than NW. Nothing against NW, but personally i think with United you get better options, such as Economy plus, upgrades easier and more options than Northwest.

after all, its what the individual chooses and think fits him best
PHX - i miss spotting

Have you checked Iberia.com's IB plus tables lately???

Iberia doesn't use miles but uses a fixed amount of points depending on class flown and origin area and destination area....

Balearics: 40 for biz, 20 for Y, 10 for discounted
Mainline Spain and Balearics: 100 for biz, 50 for Y, 20 for discounted
Mainline Spain to Canary Ilds: 160 for biz, 80 for Y, 30 for discounted

Mainline Spain and Balearics to Europe I: 160 for biz, 80 for Y, 30 for discounted
Mainline Spain and Balearics to Europe II: 220 for biz, 80 for Y, 40 for discounted
Mainline Spain and Balearics to Europe III: 360 for biz, 180 for Y, 60 for discounted

That's for all IB-coded flights no matter who operates the flight

and so on... You've got the full chart on Iberia.com. And when travelling on OW carriers, Mexicana, SN Brussels, Malev and Royal Jordanian you have a simillar chart with points depending on miles flown.

It's simpler to me than having to check if you're flying less or more than 750 miles, and getting 25% if flying N, or 50% if G, and 50% more if silver, 75% if gold, 100% more if business but only short haul, 50% if is long haul and 200% more on first....

To me it's way more complicated than IB's charts

Thanks for all

Do you have any indications on the points you earn to fly to Latin America

Personally, I whatever is the major airline at your home airport (if you fly them) is the one to go with. Here in PHX we have a choice between US and WN. Best of both worlds now that US is Star Alliance.
