When in San Francisco are there any photo oppertunities at the airport or is it all sealed off ?

thanks in advance for all answers given.

Next year, UA will add a second daily FRA-SFO flight (additionally to the daily 744 flights by UA and LH).

Then again, you could fly via MUC and get a brand new A346  Smile

As for the airline, I don't know. I've flown both and have been satiesfied with both.

both LH and UA fly 744s on the route. The T7 can "make" it of course.

with no choice in aircraft, I'd go for LH as well.

If you haven't bought the ticket and want to add the T7 to your "list", why don't you shop around? Sometimes you get offers on transfer connections that are cheaper than the N/S flights.

PS just thought about - UA is adding a 2nd flight next year and that will be a T7

In my opinion, this is the best choice on this route. The A346 is a great aircraft to fly and MUC is a great airport.

Starting next spring, UA is double daily with both a 777 and 747-400 so if you want to go UA, you get to choose the aircraft type.

The best place for photos is a bayside park. You are parallel to runways 28R/L (about 1500 feet away across the water). With normal winds, you will be able to get a great view of all landings and most all the Asia and European take offs.

Search the photo data base for SFO. Most of the landing shots are from this vantage.

Enjoy your trip!

UA 777s occasionally get used on this route in the winter, but only rarely. In the summer count on 744s with both LH and UA.

As to the choice of airlines, I have three words for you: United, United, United. They are not what they used to be, but Lufthansa is so much worse, it doesn't even compare. Plus, UA has channel 9 and so you will be able to listen to live air traffic control during the flight. No in-seat video on either plane though - sorry!

May I suggest that you try to connect in ORD or IAD on UA? That would give you the choice of 744, 777 or 767 for the transatlantic. 767 and 777 have in-seat video in Economy as well and they also have slightly wider seats (by about 3/4 inches or almost 2 cm). Keep in mind though, that airlines will sometimes change the aircraft type on short notice.

Also, if you look for good prices, you may consider US. Still Star Alliance and a great inflight entertainment system (you can pause, rewind and forward any movie whenever you like). No channel nine though and also only the IMHO boring and certainly tighter 330. You'd connect through PHL or CLT.

Edit: OK, so far it looks like they might use a 777 on one flight FRA-SFO. I missed that one. It is a very late fight though, so you may prefer flying earlier in the day.

United is a nice airline. I always enjoyed the transatlantic flights and nice crew on the AMS-IAD/ORD and ORD-FRA flights. I have flown 767 and 777 flights. I have never flown Lufthansa transatlantic, but their cabins look very neat and fresh. If you choose UA try to fly Economy+. Sometimes you'll get it free. Or pay €60,- Depends on the one at the counter.
I would try to fly both LH and UA. Their both member of the star alliance. They codeshare. Therefore I guess it's possible on one ticket. Good luck !!

Fly SFO-IAD-FRA or SFO-ORD-FRA and get the 777. Its worth the stops if you want the T7.

Good luck,

I flew a T7 (United) from San Fran to Paris and back about 4 years ago.

If they still do that route with the T7, and you can't wait until UA adds their T7 next year from Frankfurt, would you consider doing a Frankfurt-Paris-San Fran routing (LH and UA - all Star Alliance) because THEN you can experience the T7 IFE. The connecting will make your trip longer, but hey, you're an enthusiast and you'd see CDG! Neither United or Lufthansa have IFE on there 747s in coach (as far as I know) United definately not. Since LH's newer airbuses do not, I am assuming their 747s do not.
I come in peace

Go check www.unitedairlines.de
There UA has a T7 flight listed on April 25th 2007.

My choice would be : United Airlines

UA dropped their Paris-SFO flight over one year ago.

As stated, starting April 2007, UA will operate 2 daily flights on the FRA-SFO run. (1) 744 and (1) 777.

I prefer UA as the First Suite is both more private and offers more space to lay things out on then the LH First Seat.

That being said, the LH First Class Terminal at FRA is incredible. Totally blows the UA International First Class Lounge out of the water. If I had not yet experienced it, I'd take LH just for the ability to try the lounge.

I am fortunate to always receive top-notch service in UA F, however the consensus is that while LH's FA's are less friendly, they are more professional and consistent then UA's.

I prefer UA First in the 777 rather then the 747 as it feels far less crowded, but LH puts their First upstairs on the 747 so it's pretty spacious.

It depends....I would rather fly on UA's economy+ with 34-36 inch seat pitch over LH's 30-33 seat inch pitch...

something to consider...

Business class...I don't know which one is better..

Cheers...

Fly with UA and pay a bit more and get Economy Plus. If it is because Frequent Flyer miles you still get them on both LH and UA because they are Star Alliance partners.

well If you have the time and the dates work out for you. Fly the 777 with UA on one leg and fly LH on the other. They code-share on both flights so you get your miles and it can be done on one ticket.

Hey there,

I tell you something, skip both UA and LH and take a real quality airline to the US!

Take DL´s 777 (flight number 15) from FRA to ATL and connect there to fly to SFO!

Just my opinion.

When it comes to travel to the US Delta would always be my first choice ahead of any other airline no matter American or European!

However if your decision is just to be made between LH and UA then I´d suggest you take the latter! UA service is far better than LH´s! LH´s international economy class is a relict of the stone age... might be acceptable from FRA to BOS or JFK (still there are better choices on both routes) but for sure is ridiculous on such a long trip!

Best regards

If the price is similar, I wouldn't think twice and choose the UA 777 flight. IMO, LH is the worst European airline. I flew UA 744 and 742 between FRA and LAX, CPT, MIA and all were very uncomfortable flights. The price was always and always the main factor why I chose LH.

Having PTV on such a long flight would be very nice... I think UA have them right?
