Going To DXB For The First Time: What To Expect?

Mon Dec 04, 2006 2:24 am

In March, I'm taking my long awaited journey to Dubai. I will be flying OKC-ORD-LHR-DXB-LHR-ORD-OKC. I was wondering what to expect from the terminals at Heathrow (I know that T3 is a craphole) and Dubai, to the general feel of the nation, it's airport, and service to the UAE. Also, how is British Airways? I've only flown them transatlantic, never eastbound from LHR/LGW.

My flight schedule looks like this:

OKC Oklahoma City 03/06/2007 02:25 PM
ORD Chicago 03/06/2007 04:29 PM Economy

AMERICAN AIRLINES

LHR London 03/11/2007 06:40 AM Economy

OKC Oklahoma City 03/11/2007 04:45 PM Economy

Finally,

There are many hotels in Dubai. Was wondering if any of you could recommend a hotel in the best areas of Dubai. And what to do there.

Thanks.

As far as what to expect on your flight experiences on AA and BA,i think they will be like any other regular flights.Y classes of all world class airlines are more or less the same, its a very standardized bland product.

As far as DXB is concerned...really depends on what you want to do.It has quite alot to offer from Indoor Skiing to Desert Safari's,Central Asian Hookers to endless world class Shopping,Exotic car rentals, water sports, fine wining and dining, top of the line hotels, thriving and very diverse night life(from regular western style night clubs to Belly Dancing joints to brothel style clubs) and much more...

DXB will probably blow your mind away there is that much to choose from if you really know the place.Depends on what you want to do.If you want you can email me and i'd be happy to help.

i wish you came on January to see the shopping festival, March is fine too.
I advice you to stay on Jumierah Beach Hotel, you can book from http://www.jumeirah.com/
you will be in the heart of new Dubai, never miss Emirates Mall, Ibn Batuta Mall, Bab Alshams desert resort (dinner), Emirates Boulevard in Emirates towers (prestige shopping mall), Madinat Jumeirah Souk (traditional market), Deira City Center. Creek cruising beside Sheraton deira creek, never forget the famous Sheikh Zayed road, Mercato Center on Jumirah Road.
If you are interested in Heritage and Arts you can visit the neighbour city Sharjah where you can see the old museums and the arabian style buildings.

You can e-mail me always and I'll try my best to help you

Hi well I was in Dubai 3 times and loved all 3 visits. Theres so much to see and do . I have stayed in the JW Marriott hotel twice but that is in the city. If you want a beachfront hotel try the Mina Asalaam which you will find on the Jumeirah website. Its also not far to the Emirates Mall and the Ski center. BA is normally quite good and its only around 6hours 45 mins . Dubai airport is nice and I checked in 4 hours before when leaving Dubai just to get around the huge duty free shops. Its great for electronics. Dont miss the gold and spice souks. You can do a desert jeep safari or dinner under the stars and belly dancing etc... be careful in some drinking clubs as the prices are crazy. Lots of Russian hookers who will empty your wallet also ( so Im told ) !!

The waterpark is fun ''wild wadi'' for all ages. The US troops on leave from Iraq often head there to chill out. Im sure you will have fun whatever you do. The hotels can be quite expensive to eat in but the food is good. If you just want a quick and cheap lunch head to one of the malls where they have food courts like the USA with Thai,Middle Eastern,European food for around 10 to 15 US dollars.

I double that.. It's a great tourist hotel with many facilities... It's a bit crowded though... The food outlets is out of this world.. Great entertainment and shopping too... Plus free access to Wild Wadi water park and great views of Burj Al-Arab is guaranteed... I enjoyed my stay there...

If you want something a bit better and smaller, I recommend the Ritz Carlton.. Much more relaxing there.. They are both in the same area... When I stayed at the Ritz 2 years ago, the construction of one of the Palm Islands was going on and there was some noise....

You are gonna love DXB  Smile

It's said that it's quite sandy there and I've heard it's very hot too. Apparently they don't speak American, but will understand you if you yell at them loud enough.
come visit the south pacific

It's obvious that you have never been to Dubai, so I suggest you don't weigh in on the conversation and express negative if not ignorant views. 99 percent of the people I have associated with in Dubai speak very good english. It's not as sandy as Cairo, and as a matter of fact it's quite clean.

I think he may have been joking?

BA's Y class is pleasant enough - 3-4-3 on a 747 with seatback tv, hot meal and a cold sandwichey breakfast. Given the short flight time it's not likely you'll be uncomfortable for too long.
