Mainline to mainline connections at ORD
aren't that difficult. You can get between any two gates in terminal 1 in less than 10 minutes. 40 minutes is adequate. Since you are arriving at 5:20am, I'm guessing that you are coming in on a Redeye flight from the west coast. At that hour of the morning, ORD
is very uncongested and those flights don't get flow controlled or delayed. ORD
is a great airport in the mornings. Things get messy in the evenings when there are too many flights and the weather is worse.
If your flight is late, the gate agent at the gate for your departing flight will know. There is no calling ahead necessary as they know about late connecting passengers, but nowadays, planes rarely get held, and unless it is a Global Service (super top elite at UA
) passenger, then they won't hold a plane for a single passenger. If they know that they have late arriving passengers, then they will wait to shut the door and not do it 10 minutes prior to departure, but still the plane will depart on time.
A simple tip is to look at an ORD
map on your inbound flight. There's a picture in the inflight magazine. I've found that the signs are not very good and clear in ORD
, so it helps if you have an idea of the layout of concourse b and concourse c.
If you have never designed an airplane part before, let the real designers do the work!
