UA Or DL SFO-JFK

Sun Dec 31, 2006 12:53 pm

I have a choice in either flying UA or DL from SFO-JFK in Economy class. Both are 757 aircraft. I know that UA is having some sort of Premium service on this route, however I am not sure if that also applies to Y class. I also heard that DL will be upgrading their cabins

Which Airline would you take an why?

Thanks for any information.

UA has Economy Plus for all of Y, and there will be fewer people on board. If you can get a Delta 757 with PTVs I would go for that though.

What? From what do you draw this conclusion? That is quite a generalized statement considering you do not know his season of travel, his dates, his times? Your PTV remark is the only part of your post that makes sense.

i don't know if there is a way to tell that at the time of booking - maybe if the seatmap shows the former-SONG configuration you're going to get that IFE product which is good IMHO (maybe the Song config has already been eliminated)

I was on UA p.s. service LAX-JFK recently and it's really just Y+ for legroom, but there was no meal service unlike the last time (think they have changed their catering policy even on p.s. services) - other than that it can feel pretty packed in the small Y+ section at the rear of the a/c.

The J and F seating looks great, so if you suffer from seat-envy, like me, it makes it that much harder to walk past all the happy, smiling F and J types who toast you with their pre-flight cocktails while you make your way back to plain old Y...

It was probably just my imagination but the f/as seemed to saunter stylishly down the aisle through F and J during service and then break into a flat sprint as soon as they hit Y so there was no chance to make eye contact or ask for anything  Wink

DL had a great thing with Song - but last time I flew them transcon the a/c was in an odd configuration with former song seating in Y with PTVs and very dirty seatcovers but with F in the front cabin - don't know if it has all been standardized by now though.

I believe the UA 757s that fly the PS service on that route are configured with less seats overall than DL...

UA has superior services, comfortable A/C on this route and the chances of getting a DL PTV equipped A/C are very small.

Well, if you did the research you would find out the amount of seats on each aircraft, even if they were full. The season, date, and time are irrelevant. My whole post makes sense if you know what you're talking about.

United p.s. 757:
12F 26C 72Y= 110 total

Delta 757 (Old Config):
24F 162Y= 186 total

Delta 757 (New Config):
26F 258Y= 184 total

Well, actually i'm a DL fan, but having flown JFK-SFO on an "old" 757 i wouldn't recommend you them...

This was my first domestic flight on DL where i wasn't in an exit row and the pitch was horrible. Their JFK terminal isn't the most modern one neither...

If you'd have an ex-song i thing you'll have a nicer pitch and IFE, also DL FA are, from my experiences, always very friendly, but that takes some luck...

As a loyal DL flyer i'd pick them again, but you do need some luck having an ex-song or a retrofitted 757...

Don't know anything about UA.

SFO-JFK one way? I'll fly United. You know United maintains large hub there -- more planes and employees to watch. Talk about having fun while spending time in United's terminal.

all of Delta Air Lines' flights between JFK and SFO are operated by reconfigured 757s.

Thanks.

UA. Their PS service is great, you will enjoy it. So in short, go with UA hands down. Nothing against Delta however.

Unless you have some sort of DL loyalty, UA is the only sensible way to go.

Look for a DL 757 with 7 rows in First and you have just found a reconfigured Song plane with AVOD.

I'd do it once and splurge a little for the First Class seat (although it is only a SQ biz seat.)
