Your Opinion On These Country Aviation Threads?

Wed Dec 20, 2006 11:13 pm

Well, personally, I hate those [insert any country] aviation threads. I think some are way over the top, with over 20 volumes or more. If there's really something important to discuss, one can always make a separate thread.

Now you'll probably tell me: If you don't like them, don't read them.

I don't read them, but still I find them to be an annoyance.

What's your opinion ?

I must be honest and I also find some of them annoying. Even though I have said that, I do take part a lot in the Irish Av thread. It was started because too many "Aer Lingus......" and "Ryanair have......" were clogging up Civ Av. and i'm sure the same was happening when the Indian Av threads were started.

So in a way it's better too discuss in a large thread rather than many smaller ones.

When something big isn't happening in a country aviation wise, there is no need to start a thread. As we all know Indian Aviation is booming and Irish Aviation is witnessing the takeover of our national airline by what can only be described as one of the most hated but vry profitable airlines in the world.

Same here. My response, at most, is to shake my head and think to myself "there are obviously some -- no, many -- members who need to get a life" as evidenced by the fact that this nonsense continues into as many as 20 or more volumes with typically more than 100 replies each. Seems like any further country aviation threads should be immediately deleted by the moderators for two reasons: 1) Subject of topic is not specific and, for sure 2) Discussed to death.

Out of the 150 threads on the front page of civ-av, I just counted 6 country threads active.

Aviation itself is a community, and within any community you'll have subdivisions. If a subset of people want to gather somewhere and talk about common interests, I don't see a problem. It further builds and strengthens a community. I rarely read any of them, but they don't bother me.

I view this sort of like the bruhaha over the Peter Max threads, with the assumption that it was just for a bunch of 13-year-olds whacking off to every take off and landing. If you looked at it though, it was an interesting education on how an airline rotates its aircraft through their system.

The HNL Rarebirds thread doesn't bother me either, and sometimes it's interesting to see what's passed through the islands while everyone else is bickering over A vs. B.

I didn't mind it when there was just the odd country thread but now there has been an explosion in the number of them, I'm starting to get a bit fed up with them

However if there were separate topics instead of these country threads there would be a lot of overlap - I now some the issues with Irish Aviation for example are interonnected. Therefore I think, reluctantly, these threads are needed

Incidently there was a similar situation on pprune a couple of years ago with a lot of airport/airline dedicated threads. However things have settled down now and people have got used to them. Perhaps the same will happen here?

The Indian a.netters have launched their own forum:

An airplane might disappoint any pilot but it'll never surprise a good one.

Country Aviation Threads Becoming Too Much (by 777way Dec 29 2006 in Site Related)

Personally, I don't see what the big deal is. It's the threads such as this one that irritate me.

A.net has how many members from how many different countries and have how many different interests?

If members want to discuss aviation in various countries that's what this site is for. And if they reach up to Vol.20, then that should be able to tell you something, right?

Best piece of advice is your own ....

If you don't like them, don't read them. If you still find them an annoyance go find something else to do with your time.  Yeah sure

Uh, my thread started some 9 days earlier, but what does it matter...  Yeah sure

My annoyance is not only because there are so many of them, but because of stupid titles, such as: "Hohohoho, it's xxx thread number xx !"

Childish, if you ask me. Maybe a new forum should be opened for them.

Thankfully, the situation has relaxed a bit recently.

Your point? Somebody replied to your thread yesterday.

Now it's the titles that annoy you as well? Again, best piece of advice was your own ....

.... if you find a title that annoys you, simply scroll down past it and find one that doesn't annoy you.

I guess we'll have to open up a new forum to discuss only Boeing, another one for Airbus, another one for Flight Simulator, another one for Nikon, another one for Canon, etc.

In all honesty, I can't see how a handful of threads can "annoy" someone so much. That's childish (as you stated) if you ask me.

I frequent the Irish Aviation Thread, and why the f**k shouldn't I if that interests me? You suggest some of the members participating in these threads should "get a life", may I suggest you apply the same to yourself if you let such little things in life annoy you. Chill out and calm down!

What a load of rubbish! If it says "Italian", or "Indian" or "French" or "Irish" Aviation thread I think the topic is quite specific. And discussed to death, how do you know that?

Quoting AeroWesty (Reply 3):

Very very well said AeroWesty.

Oh grow up. Here you're clearly referring to the Irish aviation thread. Well it's just simply a bit of humour and imagination? Why does that annoy you so much?

"Childish". Well nobody asked your opinion, but hey this is a PUBLIC forum so you're entitled to your opinion just as groups are entitled to have a single thread discussing topics that involve their centres of interest!

Happy 2007 A342. I wish you a great year, I sincerely hope our "country" threads stop annoying you and I hope that 2007 will see you take unimportant things such as this lighter.

No, I don't. Please don't put words in my mouth. If these things interest you, you may discuss it all you want.

First: I don't have this particular problem with other country aviation threads, guess what, the people making them restrict themselves to the minimum needed.

Second: I think everyone on this site knew that it was Christmas time, new year etc. If you don't think so, you can tell everybody in non-AV.

If you dont read them, its strange then that you visited, and commented on the "Japan Aviation (moikkai Yarimasho!)" Thread.

These aviation country threads, are similar to the likes of the "MUC news" threads you participate in.

Threads are always going to exist on the "broad " aviation spectrum, and should be respected.

These individual country threads are an excellent way for people with an interest in their countries aviation affairs, and the topics cannot be discussed in any other forum.

Ridiculous comment, I'm afraid.

Glad to see that on the similar thread in "site-related" people in their majority, including many moderators, are supporting these "country" threads.
Anywayn let's not discuss this anymore, as you seem to be stongly cemented to your opinion, which you have a right to, but please refrain from insulting, belittling and spoiling other people's threads!

That was the only exception, as I had just one or two small questions for which I didn't want to start a separate thread. And, until now, the Japan thread, has only one volume. That's Ok in my view.

You couldn't be farther from the truth. In the "MUC news" threads, WHICH ONLY GET STARTED IF THERE IS NOTEWORTHY NEWS, we (or should I say I  Wink) just announce schedule news for a specific airport, and if there is nothing more to add or to be asked, we stop discussing.

But I agree with Toulouse, we better stop discussing this now.

If you don't like my thread, simply don't read and participate.  Wink
