Question About A Transfer At FRA

Mon Jan 15, 2007 8:28 am

Question for anyone in the know about FRA.

My wife and a friend of hers will be traveling from SPU-ZAG-FRA-IAD early next month. At FRA, they will have 90 minutes between the arrival of their OU flight from ZAG, and the departure of their LH flight to IAD.

They are not ticketed on one itinerary, meaning the OU tickets and the LH/UA tickets (they are United passangers on the LH codeshare flight) are seperate. Since this is the case, will they be able to get baggage checked at SPU through FRA onto the LH flight back to IAD? Does it matter that the tickets are seperate (the LHUA tickets are E tickets)? Will OU do an interline baggage check to an LH/UA flight?

If they have to collect their baggage at FRA, will they have enough time to get over to LHUA to check in for the IAD flight? Can they remain "transit passengers" even if they have to collect checked baggage?

I ask because on a prior travel experience on OU, the agent at DBV refused to interline check my baggage through LHR home to IAD on BA.

Thanks in advance!

Quoting Stretch 8 (Thread starter):

OU is a Regional Partner of Star Alliance.
They should be able to check-through the luggagae to the final destination (IAD).
Have the print-outs of the 2nd ticket available at SPU.
Make sure, your relatives don't forget to show the baggage slips at FRA when they check in for the IAD-flight.

This is highly doubted.

No.

Hola!

I have gone through your question before. Let me tell you my experience:

Some years ago I was to travel to BCN-FRA-YYC. The first leg was on IB and the second one was on AC. Although IB belongs to Onewrold and AC to Star Alliance my baggage was tagged to its final destination and it made it without problems.

Last January I travelled EZE-MAD-BCN on two separate tickets. Although the computer did not recognise me as being the same passenger on both as I had used my two last names for the second leg, they checked my baggage manually, that is writing it down on the tag as in the old times, and again it made it.

Last July I travelled with my father who is 80 and quite a slow walker from BCN-FRA-YYC. We had only 50 minutes to change planes at FRA, going from A gates to B gates. Quite a long walk, elevators, transit tunnel, passport check... and we made it.

So I guess you will be OK on everything.

Salut!
