VS Or CO Long-haul In Economy. Which Is Better?

Fri Jan 26, 2007 4:09 am

I am planning on taking a trip to New York from London over April time. I have travelled on BA and AA before and want to try something new. I don't really mind whether I fly from Heathrow or Gatwick.

So my main choices are VS and CO. (Don't really fancy taking DL!)

Although I am only travelling in Economy, VS do seem to add in all the little extras.

But what is the food like on each airline?
The IFE?
The general service?

Which one do you think I should book on?

Never flown CO, but I have flown VS, and man, it's not too good. What little extras do you mean? They both have PTVs in economy (considering you don't take the 757 on CO), they both get you from point A to point B. I know American airline F/A's aren't the best, but VS F/A's are crap in my eyes. Food is food...it's not gonna be the greatest on either, nor is it going to be the worst. I would take CO if I were you...people on this thread treat VS like it's the Queens personal airline, that it is amazing...it really isn't, hate to say it. I personally will probably never fly them again.

Definitely VS. Fabulous service in my opinion and very good IFE (AVOD). I would always choose VS.

Ive always liked VS, plus the frequent flyers program is quite generous.
I also noticed that the prices are often cheaper than CO and you even have the choice of several flights.
As CO code share with VS on the NYC flights, its possible to book one way with each on Virgin Atlantic's website. Kills two birds with one stone. A340-600 out, 777 back.

VS, free drinks and AVOD, plus the service is better. My girlfriend got shouted at by CO F/A's for interrupting them while they were reading Vogue.

why not find out yourself?  Wink they codeshare, so you can book CO one way and VS the other

Unless things have changed, VS has pretty poor seat pitch. YOu may want to research this, especially if you are over 5"9.

VS generally has a slight edge on CO. Both airlines rank quite high in customer satisfaction so you can't go wrong either way. VS is often cited as the best international airline based in Europe, while CO is often cited as the best international airline based in North America. Both offer a very good passenger experience. But if I had to choose just one, I'd go with Virgin Atlantic. And as some have suggested, feel free to mix it up with their codeshare just to try both of them and see what you think.

To be honest, the economy product on most European and North American carriers is a pretty standard affair. I'd still go with Virgin though Big grin
