Who Should I Fly To HNL?

Tue Jan 30, 2007 7:08 pm

Hey all. I'm taking a trip to Hawai'i in July and was wondering which airline would be the most "comfortable" to fly. With fare as no object, who offers PTV's or even may still serve meals in coach? Legroom? Haven't really done much searching on the aircraft types that will be flying into HNL. Outta GSO, im not worried. Just wondering who would be the best bet outta say MSP, ORD, ATL, IAH, DFW, etc. to HNL. Thanks for any input.

Well, if you'd been out just a bit earlier I'd say it was a no-brainer: Book yourself on the last NW DC-10 flight MSP-HNL! But that's over now... I've been to Maui back in 2004, absolutely gorgeous place, flew AA LAX-OGG (752), nothing special at all about that though.

Go with Continental. Their 767s are comfortable and the service is great!  bigthumbsup

He's looking for an airline that offers PTV's and the DC-10 hardly ever did.

I know!.., but I'd trade PTV for a historic DC-10 flight anytime..!

That was damn funny.

I would fly the 777. I wouldn't take NWA, for their aging fleet offers no comfort. CO is nice, but UAL with the 777 is my choice. As far as comfort? the 777 for UAL is two class, and the comfort level outside of E-plus is not so desirable. Maybe a CO 767 offers the space you require.

My opinion? the 777 and UAL.

No it wasn't. It was as funny as a demented pig named Bob running full-speed into a brick wall.

If he fly's NW he'll be going in a brand new A333, with PTV's and AVOD, so I don't think it's exactly all that bad, especiallly compared to what American, Delta and United are offering.

If you are looking for IFE heaven, NW A330's from MSP offer 40 MOVIES and a few short programs all on-demand, but you'll have to pay for a sandwich and chips. If you want a free meal and decent IFE (not on-demand), choose DL or CO. If you want decent IFE but will buy your meals, then AA, US, or UA. Also, HA from the west coast offers free hot meals. Hope it helps.....

When I booked our trip to HNL, I used WorldPerks miles and was given many different flight options. I chose DL through CVG on the outbound with the 767-400 and NW on the return through MSP with the DC10. Delta offered us better service on that trip because of the meals and snacks we were given. There were various movies and shows showing on the overhead TV's. On the return it was the old NWA snack box purchase option and movies on the screen in front of the cabin.

Now of course that has changed. If you haven't been on the A330, take NW. The 330 is a great bird with great inflight features with one exception and that's food. I'm guessing that the HNL service on the 330 is much the same as the DC10 was save for the PTV's. Go NW, bring your own food and enjoy the A330.

Hmmm. I say take a look at my username and there ya go. In reality though, CO flies nice, new, clean, and comfortable wide bodies with PTVs.

I would take the unique experience of flying an A330-300 if you're not a big international traveler and wouldn't normally get the opportunity.

I'm also going to say CO - they are really the best U.S. airline, and you can take them from GSO with a stop at IAH.

He is very correct......pretty simple for me who I have picked many times from IAH-HNL and inter-island with Hawaiin Airlines. CO1 and CO73 excellent and CO1 is my choice, it is scheduled in earlier.  Smile

I would go with above statements of CO. I tried NW's 753 flights, however, they required stops on the west coast (LAX and SFO, respectively), and thus made a very long and tiring day.

My choices would be DL via ATL or CVG.
(they offer complimentary hot meal services on their Hawaii flights)

CO via IAH or EWR.
(have complimentary meal service as well and they have individual IFE on their ac's that fly to Hawaii).

My last choice for you would be HA. And that only being because you'll most likely have to connect a couple of times to get onboard one of their great flights from the West Coast.

OR he could do RDU - LAX on Delta and LAX - HNL on Hawaiian. I think Hawaiian even operates out of the same terminal as DL in LAX. I know they do in SFO, but not sure about LAX.
The proper term is "on final" not "on finals" bud...
