Damn Air Canada

Thu Feb 01, 2007 8:27 am

So I booked a flight from YVR-YYZ for March 2007. I purposely took the 7:00am flight so I could get on the 767-300. I wanted to fly on the 763, as I've heard good things about them. So I'm looking at the AC site today, and they've changed the plane to a 767-200. So I paid to pre select my seat on the 763, and I'm wondering how the change in planes will affect my seat. And why would AC change the aircraft, does it happen a lot.

Is there really a big difference between the 762 and the 763?

No. They are the same plane, only the 300 is considerably longer. Both are quite nice.

Hi,

Both versions of B767 have roughly the same number of economy seats and rows. The main difference is in the number of executive class rows.

therefore, if you are sitting in economy, you might end up with the same row and aisle or window anyways.

To be safe, just go back and verify your new seat on the B762 and change it if you are unhappy.

I'm not sure about the change from a -300 to a -200, they may keep you in the same general seat near where you selected. What is probably going to happen is you will go to the airport, check-in, and on the check-in machines a message will come up saying something like "The seat you have selected on the plane that was originally book could not be fulfilled, you will receive a refund in the mail" This happened to me when I was flying YYZ-YOW on Dec. 2nd on AC458. It was scheduled to be a 762 and was changed to an A321. That similar message came up when I checked in and within a few weeks later a check was in the mail with my $15 refund. Needless to say I was pretty upset, I was all pumped to fly on my first widebody, I even had my Boeing shirt on, and then it got changed. worried  One thing you can do in the future is book your flights closer to the date of the flight. Many things can change within the months between when you book the flight and when you fly. Of course nothing is set in stone, and sometimes you have to deal with it. Hope this helps

The J class seats are quite different between the 762 and the intercontinental 763's. To complicate it further, in the XM'd (refurb'd) 763's the seats are very much different, being pods in J, and all the seats in Y have AVOD.

AC frequently switches the 763's out of transcon routes if they are needed for longer range flights or maintenance. The 200's are really the "standard" domestic transcon a/c.

Yep, and I was on it a few years ago.
I knew they fixed it but it still creeped me out!

Yes it is. I have been on it, it was really interesting being on a plane that is part of history like that. One question I have is this was one of the first 762s AC received I believe, how long should this one stay around for?

604 received major overhaul mx just a few years ago, so she still could be considered quite 'young' even though she is 24 years old. There was posts here, because at the time it was questionable if AC would go ahead with major mx, or expire the airplane.

They made the good choice!!

I had a similar experience on a trip YYZ-SJU when they switched a 763 to a 762. Everyone already had their seat assignments but when we got to the departure lounge they announced that the aircraft had been changed. They didn't bother to assign new seats and when passengers boarded the plane it was absolute chaos as families and spouses ended up seperated. Left me with a bad immpression and I avoid flying AC if possible.

Not to worry my friend. As the rest of us have said, there is not a big difference between them, only about 96 seats actually  Silly It is a wonderful aircraft to fly on, it is a shame that they will be replaced soon. Mabye you will even have the chance of flying on C-GAUN.. or the Gimli Glider as most of us know it as  Wink

Cheers.

The passengers on ship 604 were very lucky that the Captain was an experienced glider pilot..
I could not imagine piloting a 176,000 pound glider onto an abandoned runway  duck
