Best Seat In A 747-400? (British Airways)

Sun Feb 04, 2007 7:04 am

What's the best seat (for an economy passenger, like me) in a Boeing 747-400? I'm flying BA LHR-LAX this April. (My first ever 747-400! I haven't been on a 747 since the TWA one in 1994!) By the way, the 747 is my favourite, and this trip will be my first opportunity (since my 1994 trip in a TWA 747) to fly on one.

As a student at King's College London, England, in craniofacial deformities research, I am looking for a PhD project.

I have been invited to an interview, in Los Angeles, CA, for a PhD project at USC-Los Angeles in their Craniofacial Biology programme. One of the department's professors read my CV and everything after I was put in touch with him.

So I am flying British Airways, LHR-LAX roundtrip, in April, to see this professor at USC-Los Angeles. Both of my segments (LHR-LAX and LAX-LHR) are booked on BA's 747-400.

I'm booked on World Traveller (I used STA Travel). Where would be the best (window) seat, for comfort, on the 747-400? Would it be most comfortable (and less crowded) at the rear, Zone E, near the rearmost doors? Or where else?

Any veteran travellers on 747-400s, any ideas would be most appreciated!

In the last three rows the seating goes from 3-4-3 to 2-4-2 which means
that the window seat passenger gets a bit more space next to the seat. Everywhere else is pretty much the same, except for the smaller cabin just behind the World Traveller Plus section.

I agree with the last poster, the back window seats are a tad bit more comfortable because of the less seat. I actually like the aisle seat in the middle row on the BA 747's, but you want a window so. Anyway have a great flight.
