I haven't had anything bad enough to actually put me off flying an airline again, but my worst flight was with an airline with a good reputation, and an airline that I've generally enjoyed, Frontier.
This was DEN
on the Penguins A319 back in December. Weather was nice when we took off around dusk. I had recently gotten off of a flight from PHX
, and I saw a marathon of a program I enjoyed on TV
, so I went ahead and paid for the TV
service early, before we even pushed back. I found the program and was watching it, when we took off. As soon as we made our turn to the northeast, the TV
service stopped working. This happens on turns a lot, but in this case, the TVs didn't come back on. Right about then, some moderate turbulence began and continued for the first half of the flight. We were over northeastern Nebraska when the turblence finally stopped. Then, rather than commencing the beverage service, now pressed for time, the FAs went ahead and spent at least twenty minutes trying to get the TVs to work. Finally they just gave refunds to those who had paid cash. I had paid with a card, and they said that there would be a CSR/Gate Agent in MSP
who could provide us with a phone number to get our money back (however, our aircraft was to RON in MSP
, and no gate agents were present). Finally, over the Sioux Falls area, the FAs started a limited beverage service of water or coffee only. The only good thing that happened was that I was planning on having water anyway, but it did seem like they did this service from the front and back of the plane simultaneously and heading to the middle. I was in the middle and didn't get my water until we were down around 20,000 ft (I know this because the moving map was up and working, even though the DirecTV was not). So, I basically had to guzzle my water rather than really enjoy it, because they immediately began trash collection after the mini-beverage service.
But still, I've had nothing but positive experiences on all my other Frontier flights, and I did and will fly them again. No airline is guaranteed to have a positive experience every time, although some try harder than others. But this flight was very disappointing by Frontier's standards.
