Where Shall I Fly With BA?

Sun Feb 18, 2007 11:48 pm

Hi there people,

I received an email from BA with regards to their half price redemption sale the other day, and I'm interested in taking advantage of this offer since I don't really participate in the BA FFP.

I have just under 9k in miles with them which is dire but I don't care. Each RTN trip into Europe is between 4.5k and 7.0k in miles plus taxes. Here are the following destinations that would be available:

Aberdeen
Amsterdam *
Basle
Belgrade
Berlin
Brussels
Budapest
Copenhagen *
Cyprus
Dusseldorf
Edinburgh
Frankfurt
Geneva
Glasgow
Hamburg
Lisbon
Lyon
Manchester
Milan Linate
Milan Malpensa
Munich
Newcastle
Nice
Oslo *
Paris
Prague *
Rome
Stockholm
Stuttgart
Vienna
Warsaw
Zurich *

The catch is you have to fly between 16th Feb and 2nd Mar 2007 and it excludes travel between 1-9 Apr. These days suit me really!

My question is where would you fly given this oppurtunity? I have put an astrisck next to the locations I'm tempted by.

Cheers,

Well Amsterdam should be a beautiful city, like many other you put in the list. Probably my choice would be Lisbon since a piece of me still is lying there...
Wherever you go, have a nice trip!!

Of the astericke'd locations, I would choose Prague. Always a place I have wanted to go to. I am actually going to the CR this week, but unfortunately not to PRG.  Sad

Nowhere unless you plan not to fly BA again soon.

You'll still have to pay taxes on the ticket and so your miles will probably only 'save' you about £20! If I were in your shoes I'd save up the miles to redeem for a business class upgrade somewhere. They start at only 20,000 miles to places in the Middle East (25k to the US/South Africa/India) and you are almost half way there.

Amsterdam is great but I've been! I'd probably only go there to get stoned and shoot some photos at AMS!  Wink

No comment Tanya!  Wink

Prague is great, a possible consideration.

Quoting Fbgdavidson (Reply 6):

Fraser me ole mucker. How is life?

I can see your angle actually. But I'm not sure on how often I'll be flying BA in the near future.  Sad

Go Cyprus; because it's discounted you might as well squeeze the maximum amount of flying hours out of BA! Plus the weather is guaranteed to be better out of all of those places too. It's a 767 as well, would be fun.

I received a similar e-mail and on following the links I was disappointed that only drop-downs from LHR and LGW were available on the BA website. Yet another example that BA should re-title itself as "London Airways".

No outward flights from MAN, GLA, EDI, NCL, BHX and the other cities that appear on the maps in their glossy in-flight magazine.  Angry

As BA do not fly out of my local UK airport and are unlikely ever to do so, I take a rather apathetic stance to the Company. Clearly, they have many 'legacy issues', which need to be dealt with, counterbalanced by a (largely) conscientious (and in some areas an underpaid) workforce. Nevertheless, I won't become emotional if I never fly them again, or if their fortunes head the way of Sabena or Swissair.

Just my 1 RMB

Cheers

BB

PS I don't disagree with any of the suggestions above. Europe to Tripoli for 15000 miles with KLM looks a much better bargain, IMHO.  wink

I've always wanted to go to Rome or Lisbon, so those would be my picks, so I could see some pictures of them from your trip reports. Wink

And... in all these destinations is not included Venezia?

Get a Tesco credit card and start saving those miles. Then when you've got 25000 wait for a sale for a cheap WT+ fare and use the miles to upgrade to Club. Last September I paid £490 for WT+ to JFK and have upgraded to J, saving about £2000 on the usual cheapest price.

Failing that, go for somewhere you wouldn't usually pay to visit, or that's usually expensive to get to.

Happy flying,

Chris
