Depends what you mean by over water, if there are Islands to land at somewhere or not.

Try

AKL-LAX/SFO/EZE/SCL
SYD/MEL/BNE-LAX/SFO

I think London-Tokyo is not completely over land... (i'm referring to the great circle route)
Try London-Singapore.

Syd-Jnb and vv is over water for the vast majority of the flight...over land, anywhere from south east asia to europe or south africa to europe.

Certainly not as both Britain and Japan are islands! silly

The flight with the greatest percentage of it's time over water must be something like CPT-SYD; 6842 miles in total, almost entirely over ocean, and over land I'd say CDG-SGN which at 6285 miles would be entirely lover land, save the odd lake or what's left of the Aral Sea.

Except no airlines fly CPT-SYD. But I guess as QANTAS077 pointed out SYD-JNB, I guess that takes a very similar route to what a SYD-CPT route would.

SYD-SFO is a pretty damn long overwater flight.

Technically, SYD-LAX is 60nm longer - but still a very long overwater flight.

CPT-SYD seems like a flight over some of the most desolate reaches of the South Indian Ocean....

ATL-CPT is longer, 8130 miles, and about 7,900 of those over the Atlantic

Anyone do MIA-CPT? That's 7600 mi right there JFK-CPT is about 7,800 mi

SU flies SVO-VVO and FV flies LED-VVO. these flights are over land and don't pass any point of water. NRT-LHR or SIN-LHR (or similar routes) flies all over some water.
