My First Trip To Europe (AMS)...who To Fly?

Tue Mar 06, 2007 6:30 am

Hi all!

So I figured that I find it quite funny that Ive flown so much in my life and have yet to travel accross our borders (with the acception of small border towns in Mexico). Ive decided to go to Amsterdam in may and was wondering who to fly. So far my options for best price are:

DL (via ATL going, and either CVG&ATL, CDG&ATL, or JFK&CVG
CO (via IAH going and EWR and IAH on the way back)
NW (via MEM both ways)

Im having a real tough one deciding this. Id like to to DL because I know their new product is very nice and im familiar with ATL, plus id get an opportunity to fly on an AF744, also my first time on a 744. They also have nice connections. CO seems nice also because of the connections and I know CO consistently delivers a good product. NW seems good because their A330s are nice, and I hear they have a nice product and I know AMS is their European pride and joy with the KLM connections. I also think dealing with customs in MEM would be much easier than dealing with EWR, IAH, JFK, or ATL.....my friend is strongly reccomending DL....

what are your thoughts???

It'd be easier if we knew where you were departing from. There may be some exotic options available as well.

Well, a departure airport would help!

But ive crossed the pond many times and have connected at many european airports. AMS is bug, but has good labelling (sign, etc.) probably the best service in coach would be AF or LX. only problem in CDG is a horrible airport IMO to connect at. try Orbitz.com where they have a great price list, etc.

Since you've only flown on U.S. airlines so far, why not try a European one? You could try to get yourself on a NW flight operated by KL.  Smile

If you do get on an AF744, try getting the upstairs economy seats. Better than main deck.

Go European, not only is service usually better, it will be something new and most european carriers use the 777 or 747 (KLM is an exception) and maybe the A346.

What fare have you found, we might be able to beat it with different carriers.

So far the best fare ive found is US Airways (unfortunately) for $671, that however, is including a $100 voucher that I have with them. My limit is right around $750-$800 departing may 3rd and returning on the 8th.

For sure NWA will be competitive into AMS.

Have you considered LH via FRA?

Very good cabin service

Thanks

LH would have been my first choice but theyre too expensive. Im gonna have to deal with US, oh well the flights will be more broken up (its tough on long flights when you smoke), and I get the UA miles
