Austrian Airlines B767-300ER

Tue Mar 20, 2007 10:24 am

I am planning a trip to Austria in October and will be flying OS nonstop from JFK to VIE, on a 767-300ER. Can anyone tell me how the service is? What to expect? Food, punctuality, cabin cleanliness?

OS are the only carrier flying nonstop from the US to Vienna.

haven't flown OS in a while, but expect a scrupulously clean a/c ex-VIE and good punctuality - Austrian attention to detail is legendary.

ex-JFK no idea who their handling agent is, but evening departures to Europe tend to get stuck on the ground for ages even in good weather - JFK rush-hour effectively

...also best coffee in the sky IMHO!

Food is great in C. OS have a chef aboard, who will discuss menu options with each C-class passenger before take-off. Food in Y is just what it is. Not terrible, but nothing to write home about. Cabin crew nice and professional.

In general, Y-cabin on OS 763s is rather cramped - see the number of seats and compare to other carriers.

The 763s have overhead bins of the old design - difficult to fit a roll-aboard (and impossible to fit all the carry-on laguage pax want to bring aboard). Thus, expect a detailed check of your carry-on laguage - if your item looks big it will be checked-in and loaded into the hold at the jetway / at the aircraft door. This is a new practice since 763s have been introduced on IAD and JFK routes, it wasn't a problem on 343 and 332 they used to fly till last year.

Will IAD see the OS 772ER in the summer?? I think DEL now sees the 772ER instead of the daily 763ER. Correct me if I am wrong!!  Smile

I concur. I have flown on the OS 763ER from DEL-VIE in cattle class, rather cramped for me (6ft2in) as compared to the A332, wish they would fly a bigger plane-772 would be nice!!
come fly with me

IAD was supposed to be 772 for the summer 07. Can't wait to check them out.
The new VIE-ORD route will be operated with 763.

I flew OS long-haul last year on an A330 , Service is good , flights were on-time , clean planes ( I had an exit row so I was sitting beside the lavatories and I witnessed one of the male F/A's going into the washroom and clean it 2-3 times during the 9 hour flight ) .
Food was ok , OS uses real plates to serve their food even in economy class , they also serve fresh out of the oven bread during meal services .

Take a look at airlinermeals.net, you will find more information about OS's inflight catering there.
