Best Seat On A CRJ 200?

Thu Mar 22, 2007 4:08 am

Just booked a flight BUD-CPH for mid next month, and discovered that it would be on an oh-so-spacious Canadair regional jet 200... Now, its been a long time since Ive been on one of those, and i wondered where the best seat would be on this plane? Does the exit row bear any extra centimeters? Just in case you're interested, it a Malev plane... booked in Y...
Any ideas would be deeply appreciated...
Big version: Width: 430 Height: 83 File size: 10kb

heres the seatmap, so you can directly advise me to specific seats... Thanks!

Strange configuration of this CRJ...

Air Nostrum, Brit Air and Tyrolean has seats 1A and 1C where there are many free space (I usually book one of these two seats if are available).

Second choice, in your case first, seeing this seat map, rows 7 and 8 are in emergency exit and normally has little bit space than other rows.

Air Nostrum, Brit Air and Tyrolean has the WC in the rear of the plane.

From the plan it looks like row 8 has a bit of extra space. I always avoid the bulkhead as I find I can't stretch my legs out like you can in a normal seat.

Seat 13F is probably the only one that won't give you a backache.

There are no good seats on a CRJ-200 - they all, without exception, suck. Far too narrow, armrests too low, window at hip height plus you get curvature of the spine trying to wedge yourself into the fuselage contour. I hate them - hate hate hate. CR7/CR9 is much better, but only the ERJ is actually pleasant to fly in.

Strong but true. I've been on hundreds of the damn things (NCE is Regional Jet Central, with IB,AF,LH,OS all operating the scabby little objects) and I loathe them passionately.

I love them, much better than the EMB series as far as I am concerned, flown once and that was enough. Then again, I am used to Dash 8's, so pretty much anything is better than them sometimes!

Only good seat I could find on a CRJ is the Captain seat.....being King is the only way to get on that aircraft.  Smile

I disagree strongly - the ERJ series is much more comfortable - single seats on the left, nice big windows head high - much nicer. Their overhead bins are pitiful its true, but you can door-check bags with most airlines these days, so its not a problem.

I just flew on a -200 from ATL-TOL this past tuesday and I had 8D which was emergency window. No extra room, my knees were killing me.

The EMB series are so much better because if you cannot get emergency row, which btw have a ton of room compared to the CRJ and you can actually look out the window without having to lean all the way down to see out the window, you can get a seat all to yourself without having a seat mate. The single seat aisle is soo much better.

If you're like me and you want to see the wing, go with 11 A/F.
You get a great view, even thought you have to twist your back in a way people
are not supposed to bend. I was on one last week and my back still hurts.
But I am quite fond of the CRJ, I think they are very nice compared to what I
have heard, and I was pleasantly surprised.
Hope you get the seat you want!

At least with Air Nostrum CRJ200 the best seats are the ones not near an emergency exit, it is colder there.

Other than that, I don't have a preference. I can fly the CRJ200 between VLL and ORY and I quite enjoy it! Ey, I'm used to flying F50s which are even more cramped. 45 minutes is pushing it on an F50.

The best seat on a CRJ is the one at the gate area... plenty of legroom.. plenty of space.. otherwise, once you get on the plane.. you are cramped, stuffed, and squeezed in until you can make your great escape... and I'm not tall at all (5'10) and I still feel like I"m rolled up in a ball on CRJ..

I must agree, ERJs are a bit more comfortable...

I am not a fan of the CRJ-200, but have flown on a few with NW (Pinnacle). I am a bigger guy (only 5'10 197 lbs at my last FAA physical) and I always seem to get stuck next to a person bigger than me. I like the airplane as an airplane, but don't like the small seats. If I have to fly on a CRJ I like the exit seat.

If only there were a seatbelt......bring a newspaper for that one.

My only experience on a CR2 was from YYZ-PHL on ZW metal. My stomach had a great view of Lake Ontario as we flew over it. My stomach was also enjoying the views watching other aircraft take off as we sat on a taxiway for 20 minutes waiting for our wheels up time for PHL. I've tried to avoid CR2s since. CR9s are not that bad, I don't mind flying on them as much as I do a CR2.

Anyways, isnt there at least one seat which you would say is at least a little better than the others... just a little, all im asking for

Take the exit row man. You'll thank me later. I fly on about 4 CRJ's a year for 40min stages and I get the Exit row. More comfortable in my opinion.

Yeah I think it's Row 12 on the EMB145 which is the emergency exit, I flew it last year on BA and managed to get that seat. No qualms with the room, I just felt the cabin was much more claustrophobic than a CRJ's, and the amount of overhead storage was pathetic.

All I can say is - get an aisle! It is a world of difference. Many CRJ seats are actually quite well padded, and as long as you are in the aisle you have good headroom - not so with the window. But avoid the last row. I've personally flown the CRJ2 three times - the first was a window PHX-COS. The second and third were aisles, IAH-MSP and ATL-MSP. Now, the first flight was by far the shortest of the three, but it felt like the longest! The other two were just fine. Although the lav sucks to pee in as a guy - my knees were mashed into the edge of the toilet "platform" thing if I wanted to stand up.

I have no problem with the CRJ-200, although I certainly prefer to fly on a larger aircraft whenever possible. I am 6'2'' and don't find the CRJ to be all that uncomfortable on a short flight (2 hours or less). It is probably the only aircraft where the aisle seat gives a better view out the window than a window seat! As for seating, I would just say to avoid the last couple of rows. I was recently in 12A on a OO CRJ-200 operating for United Express, and it was very noisy back there by the engines. I'm guessing some people on here would like the engine noise, but I wasn't really enjoying it very much by the time we got about an hour into the flight.

Aaahhh... The advantages of being shorter... I don't mind the CRJ at all, in fact I prefer it to the tediousness of flying 73's and A32X's.... The best seat doesn't really exist, they're all the same, except there is no room for feet in window seats...
Get seat 4A/C, or the exit row and you'll be fine...
