Transcon Flight On DL, What To Expect?

Fri Apr 20, 2007 6:16 am

In a few weeks I'll be flying a round trip SMF-SLC-BOS on DL. My only previous experience with Delta was back in Jan. 2004, a fairly short trip on an MD-88 and a Comair CRJ. I was satisfied enough with the service on those flights, but I've never been on a transcon flight with them, so I'm wondering what to expect, and if anything's changed since back then.

The aircraft as listed on my itinerary are 757, 752, 752, 738. I assume 757 and 752 denote the two different configurations for the 757-200. What's the IFE like on these planes, and what sort of snack/BOB service does DL provide on these flights?

I think 752 denotes the ex-Song planes with the Satellite TV. On those flights, you'll have 25 or so channels of TV, games, on-demand movies & customizable music playlists from the database of music in the system.

Your 757 & 738 flights will be traditional IFE. The 757s have video monitors over the aisles, while the 738s have flip-down screens. Not sure if you'll get a movie on those flights, as I'm not sure how long SMF-SLC is. You'll probably get Delta Horizons at least, though, which is a mix of sitcoms, news shows, fine living shows & other stuff. The 738s have the Airshow map, which you can ask the F/As to flip on for at least part of the flight.

Usually the snack is either a bag of peanuts or their Biscoff cookies & a drink. Not sure about BOB. I haven't done a trans-con with DL in years.

Most likely you'll have an ex-song aircraft on the SLC-BOS run so you'll have the PTV's. You'll most likely get a nice snack box with a few little snacks, followed by a later choice of sun chips, cookies, or peanuts. I don't believe there is a BOB option since I've never had one on ATL-PDX. Have a good trip.

One more question -- According to SeatGuru, in order to use my own headphones I'll have to buy a special two-pronged adaptor. When I've flown on CO, who also uses two pronged headsets, my experience has been that my own headphones still sort of work, I just only get sound in one ear. Is this the case on DL as well, or are their headsets different still?

My experience is that you will only get sound in one ear on the 738 flights, but the sound will be fine on the 757 flights.
