Connection At London Heathrow (LHR)-Too Short?

Mon Apr 23, 2007 10:44 am

Hello all,

This summer I'm booked on a TLV-LHR-HKG-SIN connection. My flight from Tel Aviv arrives at Terminal 4 at 20:25 and my flight to Hong Kong leaves Terminal 1 at 22:15. Is that enough time to transfer terminals, clear security, and make the connection? (I have an onward connection in HKG)

Thanks!

TLV-LHR-HKG-SIN

Is this on 1 ticket ? BA164 --> BA027 ?

a) If BA sell this ticket, it is (initially) their problem if the connections goes bust.
b) With 1h50min you should be okay, but the more time the better (especially at LHR) ...

Yes it is on one ticket, BA164->BA027.

Is that time a peak hour at LHR-all of my transfers at LHR have been in the morning.

Unfortunately I do not have a answer ...
However, 22:15h is too late for most flights to the European continent - but which / how many long hauls are departing at that time from T1 I do not know.
Maybe you can go to www.heathrowairport.com at an appropriate time and check for T1 departures between 2100 and 2300h ... ? You should get an impression there.

From the a.m.website:
TRANSFER:
Terminal 4 to Terminal 1
Connecting from Terminal 4 to Terminal 1 International
Your connection will take approximately 65 minutes, from landing to departure gate. You will be directed to a coach that will take you to the Flight Connections Centre, where you will need to go through customs and security and then pass by our airline desks before making your way by foot to your departure terminal.

I realize you're connecting to the same airline so it could be different. However, two summers ago I flew ZRH-LHR on LX and then LHR-EWR on VS. Our connection time was 4 hours 35 minutes. Our flight from ZRH arrived 5 minutes early, and we made it to the gate for the VS flight as they were calling final boarding, 15 minutes before the flight was scheduled to leave. Total connection time was 4 hours 25 minutes.

I'm never flying through Heathrow again. Since you're going from BA to BA, though, you should be ok. And, if you do miss your connection, it's their fault depending on the reason.

i am not an expert but i guess it will be fine!
I just had a connection from T4 to T1 (coming in from MUC, leaving for CCU) we just had 75 minutes (which is BA's minimum connection time as far as i know) and we managed the connection without any problems.
It's just getting difficult when there are cue's at the checkpoints, the way to walk and the busride itself don't take too much time. But I guess everybody will understand when you cross the line at the queues, while showing your boarding pass and excusing at the other waiting passengers. I had to do that once and it was no problem, people were quite understanding (also LHR-Staff).
Although LHR is quite chaotic for my taste. I went through LHR 4 times and 3 times my luggage got stuck somewhere and was delivered some days later at my final destination. I also experienced that according to my ticket my gate CLOSES at -let's say- 8:05 PM, I was at the terminal quite late (i.e. 8:00 PM) and there was not even a gate assigned to the flight. So the Gate was opened at about 8:10 PM (which is already 5 mins past the official time of last boarding).
Actually the incoming flight was NOT late, we departed about 25 mins late (due to late boarding) and arrived just 5 minutes late at our destination.
So due to my personal experiences I agree with ANITIX87 to prevent flying via LHR as much as possible.

PS: just remembering that we had to wait for out on the taxiway in the plane for 40 minutes (!) although we were exactly on time! (BA 147 on 15th of April this year). (i guess for a free gate.. maybe anybody here at a.net knows more details about it..)
