LHR & MLE – Whose Best & Which Seats?

Wed Apr 25, 2007 6:38 pm

Travelling May 5th to LGW on U2 (family visit) then May 7 to MLE’ & traveling Y, we have a choice of EK & UL

Never flown Sri Lankan before & and its outbound is non-stop (5th freedom??) so it’s our current favorite. Which seats are best on UL’s 343

I’m open for suggestions for other carriers & seat recommendation on LHR/LGW>MLE’ May 7 I need to commit fairly quickly.

I would choose Sri Lankan cause they have an oustdaning service and anyway you have more chances to use EK to other destination rather than Male.
As for the seats, I have no idea but i think i would go window seats near exit doors.
Next flights : BRU-ZRH-CAI (LX)/ BRU-FCO-TLV (AZ)

I don't know if the flights are on that exact date but why not try FCA ex LGW, the seat pitch is excellent, and if the upgrade's are available they're more than well worth doing.
Check it out!!

I already flew UL on CDG-MLE, when they used to operate it on the way to CMB.

That would be my choice again. I always give the favor to a nonstop flight (you never know what can happen during a stoppover, wherever it can be, whatever airline you fly) and UL's Y is very good (food, PTV, etc ...).

I would not hesitate a second between a LON-MLE nonstop (UL) and a LON-DXB-MLE (EK).

... funnily enough I'm quite the opposite - after far too many 12+ hour flights in the past, these days I try to break journeys up into 6-7 hour sectors, so I would much prefer to go EK via DXB. It's a very nice airport in which to spend an hour or two, better of course if you have access to one of the lounges, but even without that, it's ok (as long as you're not there during the 'rush-hour' period, which is 22:00-02:00...!).

If choosing between a one-stop and a non-stop option, I usually recommend the non-stop (unless significant price differences occur) option, and this is no exception. Go with SriLankan. Since it is a rather long flight, I would go with a window if you sleep well on planes, and an aisle if you do not.
