Please Help Me To Find The Right Flight!

Thu Apr 26, 2007 11:50 pm

Hi Guys!

I will go to Australia in summer 2008 for 5 weeks. I want to book as early as possible in order to get a good price.

I want to make a stopover in Asia for a day or two. It doesn't matter if I fly Star alliance or Oneworld.

Here is my preferred routing:

Star Alliance

?? SYD-HKG or ANA to NRT

Please send me any suggestions. Can I book something like this on the internet or is it better to show up at their office?

Best Regards. Tom

Booking on the 'net, you will have to use "Multiple stops" (or similar)-option, entering flights as follows (with appropriate dates):

1. FRA - SIN
2. SIN - SYD
3. SYD - FRA

Australia in summer 2008

Often, discounted airfares are not advertised more than 12 months in advance (or are you taling about "Summer down under" = European winter ?)..
Try to find fares for 2007 and then compare to offers for 2008. Then you will have an indication, how low prices may get.

Flying from Germany, you can get a good overview on - they will show prices and conditions (there you will find information about stopovers), even if the flight has no vacancies left. But as I said, it is good for prices.

If you cannot book on the Internet, go to a Travel Agent specialized in air Travel to Asia. has been a good source for me, too.

Unless considerably cheaper, try to avoid connecting at LHR (or CDG).

Some Arabian carriers often have good fares (especially from FRA), but check stopover-options in Asia (unless you want to stop-over in Dubai).

Do you want to arrive and depart in SYD, or so you want to fork between SYD and say BNE, MEL, CNS, ... ? To be considered ...

Check also Taiwanese carriers EVA and China Airlines - they offer good stops in TPE (gives you the chance for a sidetrip to nearby HKG).

SIN vs. HKG : When going in European summer, HKG will be in the beginning of the typhoon season; Singapore has stable weather all year 'round.

Japan: Is a bit off-way from the usual flight route (= may result in higher fares). Plus hotel costs are likely to be higher in Japan than in Singapore and Hong Kong. To be checked and considered ?

this is what I am looking to do at the very minute, but around Christmas time 2007.

There are so many options open to you and the extended landing rights will open so many more, particularly EK and QR.
You should wait another couple of months to see what these guys are going to offer.

Other than that, shop online. I like which gives you a lot of options. The websites of the airlines themselves often offer lower prices than expedia, etc. just because they obviously don't take a commission on the transaction.

QF will most likely throw in a couple of domestic flights when you book from Germany.

MH will probably throw in a free stopover in KUL. Same for SQ in SIN.
BA won't give you anything and sometimes won't let you stopover in BKK or SIN. That can be difficult to negotiate on with their reservation system, so sometimes giving them a call is easier, just to see what your options might.

Taking your tickets over a year in advance is a luxury and will give you loads of time to figure a good combination out. And don't forget that summer in Europe is Winter in Australia so ticket prices will be much much lower because of that anyway.

Viel Spass beim Suchen and let us know how you get on.
