How Is First Class On US?

Wed May 02, 2007 9:49 am

HI there.

I'm likely taking US from DTW-SAN, changing in PHX (probably HP planes)

Equipment is all A320/A319

I will be going first class. How is the first class on US/HP??

Thoughts are appreciated

Thanks
Ed

Seats are comfy, legroom slightly disappointing. Overall not a big deal, but nice.

Here's my trip report on my US domestic FC experience a few weeks ago.

It's comparable to most US domestic flights. On DTWPHX you will get a meal, and a snack basket to choose from as much as you'd like and all the free drinks you desire. US has some very kind and attentive flight attendants, but HP has even more, so you will likely experience a friendly face. On SANPHX you will likely get a pre-departure beverage and another drink or two up in the air with a passing of the snack basket. Then the flight attendant from up front will prob run to the back to help serve some drinks because of the short duration of the flight.

As long as everything is on time, I think you'll have a pleasant experience.

I find the HP planes more comfortable and modern than the east metal. The food is pretty tasty. I havent had the best flying experiences with them in F class, but most of it was out of their control (6 hour mx delay and they ran out of food of the passengers sitting in rows behind me). I still like the airline overall. Im flying them MSY-AMS in Y class on thu. Their operation in SAN is very nice. Im originally from there, and they utilize most of their gates in the new section of terminal 2. Hope you enjoy!

 faint

The bow tie pasta with ketchup, errrm, I mean red sauce and the rubber chicken is a disaster.

Unless they've changed the menu, don't expect much IMO.

Now, personally, I enjoyed the US (West) cabin crews much better than the US (East) cabin crews. In fact, I've found that the US (West) folks are generally more pleasant all the way around. Maybe the US (East) folks have just been crapped on so long they've soured a bit, wasn't always that way.

Legroom will be typical of a 319/320. Nothing spectacular. Booze is free, if you're old enough. Food sucks. You'd be better off ordering a snack box out of the back and paying the $$$.

It is better than coach but not to envy - biggest perk is space and frequent beverage service

food is really hit or miss

Just flew them in Envoy (PHL-AMS), got that great airline employee upgrade. It was on a 762, now I cant use this against any other carrier as far as F class international is concerned, but it would seem to me that the seats are dated and the IFE sucked, when i was watching a movie I would hear it in english in my left headphone and in spanish in my right headphone lol. The food service seemed good, they brought it out in three courses started with a caprese style salad followed by a filet mingon with wasabi mashed potatoes and roasted vegetables, desert consisted of cheese, grapes, and a pastry. They also never let my champagne glass go empty. Overall it was much better than coach and im greatly appreciative of them upgrading me. They really do care about their fellow airline employees.

Oh boy, I know what you mean. I flew with them SFO-CLT-FLL and return. East Metal on every segment. The service was spotty. F/A on the SFO - CLT A321 used to fly on the Trump Shuttle and Eastern. She had an attitude to match. The omelette was nothing to get excited about. On the return dinner segment (CLT-SFO) we were on an A320 and no beverages (of any kind) were offered to f/c before departure. Dinner was the dreaded chicken + ketchup or a calzone. I had the latter, merely ok. Wine in a plastic glass, like being at a picnic.

The best employees were the ones on the CLT-FLL legs.

The A321 has 24+ f/c seats and it too big up there for one f/a to do a nice service.

Best thing were the seats - the USAirways grey leather monsters. Plush, with big dividers between seats.
