Battle Of The Brands: NW Vs US

Thu May 03, 2007 9:19 am

Ok folks, the last poll amongst the legacies. I chose the last two airlines which I think are both very comparable, on a very low scale. So it's NW versus US. Who is your choice?

NW- 1
US- 0
The proper term is "on final" not "on finals" bud...

Seems like my original theme "Battle of the Brands" is catching on...

I will have to take NW on this one.

Clearly NW, with no discussion necessary.

NW-5
US-0

I will add that NW is a quality airline that specializes in getting people to their destination on-time and getting their bags there with them. NW was the best legacy in the past year in the combined statistics of on-time arrival, least baggage problems, and least customer complaints.

NW also connects people through very nice hubs that aren't prone to delays.

Many people claim that NW offers the best trans-atlantic coach service of any US based airline.

Evan767, how often do you fly NW ? In my opinion, the idea that NW should be very low on the scale is sort of a myth perpetuated by people who don't have much experience with NW.

I've only flown US out of this pair, but I don't like what they did with Delta, and they just give me bad vibes.

So I'll go with NW.

I assume your vote actually makes it NW-7, US-0.

I haven't had a bad experience on either airline, and my flights on US actually had IFE but otherwise the same food basically, I'm still giving this to NW. I think NW has better facilities, a better check-in experience, and they are one of my two hometown airlines (other is Sun Country). Not to mention that US tried to buy the airline that I've had two of my best flights on (DL).

Totally Agree with you!

My vote goes to NW of course because its my absolute favorite airline and I have always had good experiences with them, and I love those ole' DC-9's.

Since I live in the PHX area, and therefore going back east I can fly non-stop to major cities without visiting MSP, DTW and good lord MEM..and one can actually go west and north on US from PHX, my vote goes to US.

This is a hard one. Neither are really my airline of choice, but my only issue with NW is their crappy schedule out of TUS. I also don't like their seating policy, most every other airline lets you pick your seats at booking, why not NW?

I will have to say NW.

NW without a doubt

The last time I flew them, I only had to wait for my bags for FIVE MINUTES!!! Way to bring in good customer service, NW.
Also they're the most convenient airline for me going everywhere and I grew up flying them. I still vividly remember flying their 727s.

I've also heard horror stories of US transatlantic and my NW experience from AMS was quite enjoyable. The F/As were friendly, always willing to strike up a chat and joked around with each other and the pax. It really created an enjoyable ambiance on that A330.

NW:16
US: Lousy one.
The air in the clouds is very pure and fine, bracing and delicious because it's the same the angels breathe.

It's hard to believe how totally bad US Air treats their passengers. I thought your luggage was supposed to travel and connect with you. Find you luggage missing and their employees will tell you "we might find it". Service at SJU is the "pitts".

I will throw in my vote for US. I haven't flown NW in about 2 years, however I used to fly them regularly twice a year between PHX and DTW and the flight attendants as a whole were downright awful. Very rude, I remember one once even made my mother cry for no reason at all... I think my mother had asked for a beverage or something and the FA snapped at her. Also, I don't like the fact that they don't even show a movie on domestic flights... not that it's necessary, I just think it's silly that it's not offered. I don't hate NW though, I just prefer US.

US has always had decent service and they generally get the job done despite their recent flaws. I can only assume and hope that things with US will continue to improve, so cast another PHX vote for US.

I've flown NW a few times in a few consecutive years and didn't have a bad experience at all. I've flown US around the same amount and didn't really have any poor service. Except when I flew to DFW last July and they lost my bags.

You can select your seat at booking, I do it all the time, unless its over 90 days out, then you can select it at the 90 day mark.
