I can't remember for sure but it might be possible that I was looking for more details on "Lao Aviation".

My story is as similar as everyone's. I googled a picture (probably of a 777) and every search kept giving me a.net as the top choice so I started doing my searches directly with them. I tested the site by searching very obscure pictures (like a MX 727 of 1982 in MIA) and the site kept finding anything I threw at them. I was impressed! About three months later, I joined.

Hi!

I really don't remember how this happen...maybe on Google or at that time the trend was for Alta Vista. At that time there was a lot of very good discussions with very good topics...and I actually learned good stuff with some of the old guys in this forum. I noticed that lately this forum tend to get pretty wild in some topics, and that's a pitty.

Some time ago I was just surfing the net, and looking for pics of planes. The rest is history.

Though initially I waited, my father also found this site, dont ask me how, and gave me a gift invitation to be a first class member. Never asked for this and he said that he knew this alot earlier but I should wait till my 13th birthday before I join.

I was doing a class project on aircraft many, many years ago; probably in 98 or 99 and at the time very few people had internet in their homes, so the teacher typed in 'Airliners/Aircraft' or something like that into a search engine and up came this site. I found it at various times again when looking through pictures and then became a lurker from about 2001 until I eventually joined up.

I was an avid flightsimmer. I would like to be still but this site takes up too much of my time!! Anyway, there was a 3rd party scenery manufacturer called simflyers that had superb renditions of world airports - one of the sites they used to create the scenery was this one. So I clicked on the link.....

Searcing pics of Learjets a few years back, maybe 2000. Then about 2005 was searching again for 747 info, came here again and went ,"Oh yeah, this is that cool website." Read the forums for about a year, and then signed up.

I had been a regular reader of rec+travel+air news groups but after a few times of it not working I thought I would use something different. At that time altavista was the search engine to use, and found this site towards the end of 1999.

I discovered the site back in the summer of '99, as a guy I worked on the ramp @ FL was also an plane geek and told me about the site. I browsed mainly through photo DB for about a 18 months before finally deciding to join the forums (I had lurked in the forums, but saw a topic that I wanted to post in and decided to join then.).

A mate showed me at school. I was intrigued. I was going to MCO like 2 months later so I logged onto airliners.net to search for the type of aircraft I'd be on. I found it and thats when the whole aviation thing got the spark. I have always been fascinated by planes. A few months later I joined up Big grin

Here's one that hasn't been mentioned yet...

An article in USA Today several years ago talked about how this was one of the top sites for aviation enthusiasts. I pulled the site up immediately after reading that, and I haven't left it since!! Gotta have my "several times a day" dose of a.net.

A friend told me about it in August 1999. There were only about 20,000 photos at that time. Now, that's how many are added every week or so.

It was only about nine months ago when I was just starting at Bowling Green State University and my room mate was on this site constantly. He and I are both aviation majors and I thought I was an aviation geek, until I met this kid that is. He has even referred to himself as

Quote:
A flaming aviation geek.

I surprised by what he knew and what he did in his free time, which was mostly spent surfing this site. Finally I got bored with my X-BOX and dropped in to this incredible site. It took me a few weeks to decide that I was willing to drop the money to become a member, but since then, I have decided that I would have paid double that to get access to this great site and all of its great features.

But I often find myself asking this question...

Quoting Feroze (Reply 17):
Where did my life go??

But I do owe my room mate many thanks for getting me to this site. I love it now more than ever.

and as it is said...

and the rest is history.

I do have to say though, doing this site over high speed, is a lot easier than dial-up.

I hate dial-up.  banghead

It was in September 2003 when I was 11 and I typed in "Cool plane photos" into Google Images and up they came. When I clicked on one, i got an article about airliners.net photo search page and that was me hooked. I then used it to see if I could see what type of a/c I was going to PMI on in the October. Then, in July 2005 (22 months later), Pawsleykat was born!  Yeah sure

I don't post much in the aviation forums anymore but the Non Aviation Forum is my favourite forum on the whole web.

Okay, I was researching why BA, an probably other airlines, dimmed the lights upon landing and taking off in the dark. I typed it into google, and what came up was an extract from Sam1987's LHR-HGK trip report. I read it, and loved it. But I wasn't aware there was any other trip reports, so I simply closed the window and forgot about it!
About a year later, I was searching from BA 757-200 pictures, and constantly, I saw the copyright writing at the bottom, with the letters www.airliners.net.
After a while, I tried the link, and ended up at the homepage. The layout looked familiar, and with a quick search, I found the exact same trip report I had read, one year ago!
