Crews, What Do You Bring On Your Trips?

Sat Jun 02, 2007 3:43 pm

Hey!

Just posting this out of pure curiosity. I'm a flight attendant myself, and I always take my travel-pro roller, and of course the "tote" bag that harbors my manual, bid packets, pens, forms of different types, and usually a pair of running shoes (lol). I also however on the side bring my black north-face backpack, as I use it as sort of a "man purse" for lack of a better term (Hey I could be one of those guys with the D&G and whatever that all is called-But I aint hate'n) And I use that to stash snack food during the day, granola bars, apples, bottles of water. I also keep my wallet, cell phone, charger, books I'm reading...etc.

Anyway, I'm not a fan of taking the laptop anymore, Its just too much of an issue with security (getting it out of its case and shuffling around everything)
Ok! So just curious to see what everyone else brings on their trips! (BTW does anyone have a good system for work out clothes- I bring them but always hesitate a "ultra intensive" workout because they get too wet. When at home I run 5 plus miles a day...so being on a five day trip with minute exercise like 20 minutes of lite biking in the hotel fitness center sucks!!!

I bring the laptop for posting here on layovers and watching countless Netflix videos.

In my suitcase is a few essentials. An umbrella (portable), a windbreaker, a homemade first aid kit, bathing trunks (you never know), a small teddy bear (my husband gave me) and a small framed picture of my husband.

In my tote bag I carry my required inflight manual, my apron, citrus spray (for nasty lavs and hotel rooms), clorox wipes (to clean the lavs - yes, some of us actually clean the loos onboard) and my iPod.

I have it all down to a science at this point.

As for clothes, it's always jeans, a collared shirt and runners (not to mention clean replacements for the return trip home).
You can't cure stupid

good topic. i trudge along my suitcase full of clothes....one extra uniform set, clothes to hang out in (lounging around the room) & nicer clothes, too. always jeans and a pair of shorts, things to work out in (shirt, shoes, and shorts), underwear/shirts/socks, nicer, non-uniform shoes or nice tennis shoes and swim trunks when i know the layover will call for it.

miscellaneous stuff includes....toiletries (including my own shampoo...as i've found using different hotels stock every morning destroys my hair), non-greasy hand & face moisturizer, sample-sized air fresheners from bath & body works (for fhe lavs, as needed), six million pens/pencils, my appointment book, the most current bid packet, a book or two, sunscreen (again, when the layover calls for it), serving apron, announcement book in the back pocket of my pants at all times in case of brain-fartage, special notes from my special guy, my photo album, my passport, my camera (and extra batteries & the charger), sunglasses, extra empty zip-lock bags, vitamins, my journal, flight attendant handbook & manual, service guidelines booklet, cell phone (and charger), and my wallet (heavily-laden with more $1 bills than i've ever carried in my life).

i will usually pack and bring my own food for all my trips, too...i just bought one of those vacuum-sealing food storage devices that have really helped me out in that respect! cook it, bag it, vacuum it, freeze it, and off i go  Smile

...and i think that's about the highlight of it  Smile

happy flying!
It's an entirely different kind of flying; all together.

When I complete my training, what TravelPro does everyone suggest I get? What kind of bag should I have for my manual and stuff? And how in the hell does everyone fit everything in to the suitcase?

yeah watch the greesy lotions for your face...It makes you look really bad under the cabin lighting. Clarins Men (Macy's Norstrum) is a great non greesy daily moisterizer. Get a standard 22" and a full size tote. My airline actually supplies them to us under our contract's "uniform" policy. And don't foget crew tags!!

I'm not a crew member (yet) but I have a TravelPro Crew4. I bought it at the suggestion of a CO flight attendant after I broke my old suitcase on a flight. I think they discontinued that model and now have the Crew5. It is incredibly sturdy and has a ton of pockets. It also stands well when I attached my laptop bag to it.

I purchased mine at the United company store in ORD. There were three types they offered. I bought the one that was priced in the middle because they were all so similar. Anyways, I have great fun with the travelpro and all its little pockets lol. Its really weird. I think of it as a good friend. It does its intended job of carrying this 20 year old's "room" around north america! I hate to keep carrying on about this, but my travel pro's name is new york (don't ask, but yes it has to do with the show)

For those of you who carry lap tops, how do you transport those? In a separate case, or in the suitcase?

Ok I take my laptop a lot because on a 20plus hour layover with one of those crews that you consider "wierd" and one of those "bad" hotels, its nice to have. Its just a pain at the TSA.

I try to travel light and since its only a single destination and return (either TLV or DXB) for the summer, I pack a second uniform for the return, shirt, tie, jacket, pants. Then for the layover hotel, casual slacks, shirt(s) one for each layover day, swim trucks, pair of "boat" shoes, socks and underwear. Thats all in my TravelPro. Small backpack has personal items,
shaver, hygene items, tooth brush, sun glasses, etc. oh and yes my laptop goes in the TravelPro. What I need for the flight itself also goes in backpack. In Fall and Winter take crew coat without zipper lining and sweater. Being on long haul flights I do not have the problem my fellow FA have with multi leg domestic flights. I still have nightmares when I think of my beginning days at TWA as a Reserve, being called to report within two hours for the flight and flying JFK-STL-MCI-STL-
TPA (overnight) then TPA-STL-MSP-STL-MCI (overnight) MCI-STL-DTW-STL-MSP-IND-LGA, but that goes with the territory and thats why I love doing what I do.

Interesting to note what US based crews take on trips; it's very similar to people travelling on their own time  Smile. As for aircrew of many non-US airlines, you wouldn't dream of taking such luggage items as you MUST carry the airline issued luggage.
At QF, we have a rollaway case and a 'man-bag' of sorts (both with company motif on the sides). These are the only things allowed in the cabin. You are also permitted a hard-case samsonite case (must be a specified model) which you may check in.
Also, interestingly (and HIGHLY annoyingly), Australian aircrew are NOT exempt from pax regulations regarding liquids and gels. Really makes it fun to pack for airport reserve!!  Smile

As for me; I have my standard layover stuff. Generally jeans, t-shirts, shorts, swimmers, gym stuff, maybe going-out stuff and warm stuff. And let's not forget the 'chardy-cardy' (QF term for appropriate attire if you get to deadhead and want a drink or 5)
