Which Is The Most Ideal For The Lhaul TPC

Wed Jun 20, 2007 5:19 am

Just wondering what the general consensus is of the ideal aircraft for long haul transpacific routes, such as LAX to SDY. The 777 or 747. Also, how many 340's operate transpacific out of West Coast Airports to Asia.

Assume you mean SYD not SDY which is Sidney, Montana. A German tourist made that mistake last year when making an Internet booking and actually wound up in SDY instead of the intended SYD!

Current A340 operators on various Pacific routes from the west coast (USA and Canada). Not sure if there are any others.

Air Canada
Cathay Pacific
China Eastern
Philippine Airlines
Singapore Airlines
Thai Airways
Air Tahiti Nui

Quoting Delta764 (Thread starter):

for me, and purely from a passenger's point of view, the 744 is just perfect - large enough to forget you are sealed up in a metal tube (the 340 can feel claustrophobic IMHO)

Of course the operator makes a huge difference - QF and NZ have both been great in my experience with a very high standard of cabin furnishings and AVOD

I imagine AC's 77W YVR-SYD will be excellent too - but I'll try the A380 over everything else when it finally enters service...
